The Neptuna is a lovely hotel, full of charm. The staff made the hotel, from reception to the dining room, bar staff to the cleaners, everyone was so welcoming. The hotel was spotless, as was our room, and the grounds were beautiful. The pool looked inviting but we didn’t have the best weather and it was cold! Other reviews mentioned the lack of sun-beds and I can imagine in high season this may be a problem if poolside is your preference, but there are beaches close by with lifeguards. There was entertainment on a few nights, but the town is just a few minutes walk away full of restaurants and bars if this isn’t your thing. We would have liked tea and coffee making facilities in the room for a morning cuppa, but have noticed many hotels no longer have this facility. The beds were comfortable and we slept well, but the walls are thin and you can hear conversations of your neighbours. Breakfast is from 8-10, as is the evening meal so you tend to find long queues from 8pm … but you can go to the bar for a quiet drink until the queue subsides. There is the usual breakfast buffet choice including cooked, continental, fruits and yoghurts but the evening meal is very fish heavy as you’d expect from an old fishing town. As a non fish eater i still had a choice of meats, and there was always the salad bar option. You get dropped off at the bus station and it is approximately an 8-10 minute walk to the hotel (better directions from EasyJet would have been good as we got to the resort in the early hours) but you turn right out of the bus station and walk straight ahead until you can’t go any further, then turn right and the hotel is at the top of a small hill. We loved Tossa, the old walled town is just stunning and the resort is surrounded by ancient forests with some fantastic cliff top walks. Would recommend bringing beach shoes as the beach is a mix of pebble and shingle and can be quite sharp underfoot. If you like the modernity of modern hotel chains, then this probably isn’t the hotel for you, but we loved the unique style and would stay here again.
