We came for Sunday lunch, so I can't say anything about the bedrooms. But from our impressions of Reception, the bar and the restaurant: This place is old-fashioned... In a very good way. Firstly, it's made by the staff, who are smart (not sure I've ever come across a restaurant Maitre d' in tails - at lunchtime..), polite, friendly and efficient. They give a very good impression of enjoying their jobs, which carries over into the whole feel of the place. Despite the formality of the staff's appearance, the decor and the table layouts, the atmosphere in the bar and restaurant was relaxed. The pianist had an idiosyncratic approach to his arrangements, which made playing "Spot the Tune" a fun game. Everything seemed clean and it was useful to have a area to hang bulky winter coats. I've docked a star because, in the end, the food was no more than average and did feel a bit conveyor-belty. We forgave this because their set-price menu, at this time of year at least, is good value. Additionally, the bar area was really cold, with a potentially cosy laid fire sitting there, sadly unlit and no radiators on. We'd have spent longer - and more money - had we been able to lose the goosepimples. I'm sure a lot of people would moan that this hotel - which was once the home of Charles Kingsley, of "Water Babies" fame - is "dated". I suppose it is. But it's unapologetic about not being all stainless steel and fake marble. If that's your bag, you've plenty of choice. I hope Livermead House stays as it is. We'll be back to enjoy its lovely "time-capsuley" feel.

Sunday lunch in restaurant, 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟, totally amazing silver service delivery, large menu to choose from, food was mouthwatering delicious, staf were very tentative, all dress in black jackets and gray wasit coats, black trousers very smart indeed, everyone was extremely welcoming and helpful, I enjoyed me dinner while listening to a pianist, the restaurant takes you back to an elegant and stylish era, it was clean and very tidy, Well definitely make a return visit.

Went here recently for the wake following my Dad’s funeral. I requested gluten free food on the buffet. I was given 4 very small slices of pizza along with sandwiches. However I was not impressed - the pizza was ok but with the sandwiches the bread was dry. I did not have many sandwiches because of the bread and the egg one I had there was less than a teaspoon of filling so not very enjoyable. Disappointed as it was not cheap.

It is sad when an establishment in such a prime location lets standards slip to extremely low levels. Poor service, food handling, and cleanliness. Draught lager not maintained....served cloudy, and flat.....15 minutes stood at the bar waiting for them to sort, with zero communication......after them trying to say it was fine.....until another member of staff tried it and agreed it was off. Waiters thumb on butter as he served, Food and gravy "thrown" on plates without checking if you wanted it all, chairs wobbly / broken, what looked like cigarette burns on some, and to top it all....the toilets were dirty amd some "out of order". This is not all that Torquay has to offer......please look at the many other amazing establishments

Gen X writing about Sunday lunch... Gorgeous slightly faded grandeur, dècor from a sadly bygone era. Lunch service for us four was exquisite. A lovely mix of silver service with lots of charm from Barry and team, special mention to our fastidious waiter from Oldham. You are very special ❤️ The starters menu was quite alluring but there was no pâté on offer. A quick word with Barry and the most delicious chicken liver parfait was conjured up for two of us, with red onion marmalade and melba toast - sublime. The roast sirloin of beef was melt in the mouth tender, gravy as it should be, and perfectly cooked vegetables (broccoli, swede, carrots, etc), homemade Yorkshire pudding slightly eggy but eminently better than frozen food service offerings

My Mum and her mate stayed here for four nights. No hot water throughout the entire stay and beds hard as rock. When mum complained manager gave sob story that hotel was loosing money! Conning OAP's with a sob story is not good enough. The only thing that was good was the food. Don't stay here. Manager more than welcome to contact me as gave my poor old mum excuses!!!! Sad, tired hotel and poor excuse of a manager!

We only stayed the one night and had a fabulous experience. Very welcoming, friendly staff , who couldn't do enough for us. Room was very clean and tidy, had all the amenities that we would need. We were lucky to pick the night they had entertainment, which was great too, the lady singer was very good indeed and catered for all ages. We would have stayed another night, but due to the change in weather we didn't this time. However we would definitely book again in the future. So a big thumbs up from us and we would like to say a big thank you to all the staff for making it all so lovely too
