Wonderful B&B! Owner was very kind and helpful, and spoke good English as well. Room was very large and very pretty with tatami mats, shoji screens, and very clean . The entire place was very cozy and comfortable, and facilities seemed very new. Japanese breakfast was very good. It is a bit of a distance from the train station up a steep hill (did not bother us as we had our own transportation on a bike trip anyway) but in a beautiful quiet neighborhood — it would be well worth the taxi ride or walk from the train station to stay here! Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful stay at B&B Kuranoya. The room is very clean and the breakfast is delicious. The scenery around the B&B is very peaceful. The owners are very friendly. He helped us with the luggage for Yamato. We really recommend this B&B.

Had the 12 tatami room, which was very spacious. For a single person the 8 tatami room will be enough, though. Fridge and water heater were provided incl. very, VERY tasty green tea. Bed needs to be tidied up each day for cleaning reasons though I would have done that anyway because else mold could grow. I had my own bathroom, where tooth brush, paste as well as shampoo and body soap had been provided. Kuramoto-san has been very eager to show hospitality. As far as I can say he would have been nice enough to drive me to sightseeing spots (as already stated by other people). Though I didn't need that service because I had rented a bike which he supported me to get at the tourist office. The breakfast was wonderfully and especially vegetarian made, thanks a lot! I am happy to recommend the Kuranoya B&B.

Tono is a special place in Northern Japan, for its nature and culture. It’s not surprising that many legends originated here. The B@B Kuranoya is an ideal basis for exploring it and two nights were a bit short for all the points of interest. The B&B itself is great, we got a very large room of 12 tatamis, other are smaller, and meals were excellent. Our GPS plaid a bad trick, sending us a few hundred meters away after dark, we missed the B&B indications and the owner was very kind to come to our rescue. Warmly recommended.

So lovely to get out of the city and spend few days at this B&B. The premises are located on the edge of the city a little way up the mountain so the area is semi rural. To get there from town you pass rice paddies (currently in varying stages of the autumn harvest) and apple orchards (with some late fuji apples still on the trees). The premises were very quiet. Such a blessing to be somewhere with no noise or light pollution and no traffic passing by. Although a little out of town (about 3km from the railway station) the host very kindly collected us and drove us back to the station for arrival and departure. In between we hired electric bicycles and once again the host was extremely helpful, driving us into the rental place and arranging the bike hire which would have taken us much longer due to our lack of Japanese. He also arranged for us to have the bikes overnight (which is usually not done) and to park them at his premises. I am gluten free and the host was able to provide a gluten free Japanese breakfast and dinner every day we were there. For me this took away all my anxiety about where to eat, as it has not been easy finding gluten free food in Japan. The food was delicious and often more than I could manage in one sitting, however the host was happy for me to take leftovers and keep them in the fridge in our room. Highly recommend this place for anyone wanting gluten free food for breakfast or dinner and a place that is comfortable and quiet.

The host, Mr. Kuramoto, is incredibly kind and accommodating. This scenic mountain inn is nestled between the beautiful rice fields of Tono and the dramatic forested mountains, but is still close enough to get to the town easy enough and do some sightseeing. The breakfasts provided were lavish and delicious, and were prepared with care. We stayed in the larger of the tatami rooms and it was roomy and comfy enough for me and my 4 friends. The whole inn has a peaceful, carefully arranged and tidy, and aesthetically beautiful atmosphere that taps into the town's rich history of folklore and fairytales. I can't recommend this wonderful and charming inn enough. Also, consider renting a taxi or bicycle while you are visiting tono, it makes getting around to see the various cultural landmarks much easier. Mr. Kuramoto also rents bicycles if you ask him ahead of time.

We spent 2 nights at the very friendly B&B Kuranoya on our recent trip to Tono. We were extremely impressed with all aspects of this lodging. To start off with, there was very good communication leading up to our stay with the owner, Toshi, sending us through all the useful information we’d need for our stay. Upon arrival, we were picked up from the train station, and after a short explanatory session at the visitor’s center, we were whisked off the 3km to the lodging. The lodge is located in a quiet neighborhood in a rural setting outside the town – but still easy enough to walk or bike into town. Toshi was gracious enough to shuttle us into and out of town as we required, and extremely generous gesture. Our room was one of 5 in the lodge and we opted for the Japanese style room with the private bathroom. Everything was super clean, comfortable, and very well maintained – the place looked brand new! In our room we had a small fridge, AC, fan, tea making facilities, TV, and a good wifi connection. The meals at the B&B were outstanding, all Japanese food prepared by Toshi’s wife. We were really well looked after – Toshi speaks great English and was a very friendly and gracious host and helped us with many logistical aspects of our trip in Japan. I can’t really compliment this place enough – absolutely loved it. It will definitely be one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommended to all travelers looking for a good base in Tono.

We spent 3 nights at this lovely B&B located just a few kilometres outside of Tono town in the Tono Valley. Our tatami room was large, clean and very comfortable. We had breakfast and dinners there and they were all excellent examples of traditional Japanese food. The owners were very amiable, spoke English and helped us many times with guide information, rides around the valley and even assisted us when my wife’s biking accident warranted a trip to the local hospital. I would highly recommend this B&B and also the Tono Valley itself as an interesting off the beaten track type destination. The surrounding hills in May are beautiful with an abundance of Japanese Maple trees everywhere. This is a location which, if you had the time, you could hang out for a week or more easily.

We spent 17 days touring the northeastern Tohoku region. We were looking for a place to stay in Tono or Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture, when we found B&B Kuranoya. B&B Kuranoya was located on the slopes of Mt. Takashimizu, about 2-3km northwest of Tono Station. As it is a B&B, dinner is not normally provided, but we were told that it can be prepared except during busy periods, so we chose a plan that included dinner. There is no alcohol served with meals, so we had to bring our own. We were told that Tono is the number one hop producing region in Japan, so local beer is popular, and that doburoku has been a favorite drink for a long time, so we went to a nearby roadside station to buy some and had it with dinner. As it was a B&B, the accommodation itself was small and simple, but the building was new and clean, and well-cleaned, so we had a very comfortable stay. We were told that we could see a beautiful sea of clouds the next morning from the Takashimizu Observatory, which is about a 10-minute climb from the accommodation, so we climbed the narrow path to the observation deck early in the morning. A magnificent sea of clouds awaited us from the observation deck.
