The ventilation window of the bathroom is directly connected to the outside. When the light is turned on at night, mosquitoes will fly in and small geckos will crawl in. The room may have a smell because it is too humid. However, the hotel service is very good. We went to Safari the next morning because the off-road vehicle was stuck in a mud pit and delayed time. We returned to the hotel late. The hotel also called to ask if we needed to save our breakfast.

When we arrived it looked like a great hotel and when we were allocated a lovely spacious room we very much looked forward to our stay there. After having enjoyed a quick dip in the swimming pool before getting ready for evening dinner, it is sad to report that the food was disappointingly poor with a lack of choice and cold food. We've stayed at several hotels whilst touring Sri Lanka and the food at some has been stunning but sadly the food in this hotel was definitely the worst @

I will start this with the positives, we had a spacious room with a great view, the hotel is close to the elephant transit centre and the pool table is free to use. That’s it. The hotel is very dated and in need of some serious upgrades, parts of it look completely derelict, that can be accepted and probably wouldn’t been an issue if you didn’t find ants crawling in your bed. The staff make a hotel, unfortunately at this hotel the staff were extremely overbearing and absolute pros and making you feel uncomfortable. The choice of food on offer is abysmal and what is there is cold and covered in flies, it seems the staff are aware of the issues but rather than improving the food choices and hygiene standards they instead are all over you to the point that you feel uncomfortable even being in the restaurant. We only stayed one night thankfully and at breakfast after finding ants running around in the bread I was offered an alternative meal, to which I accepted and this would have been fine if the staff didn’t then linger around your table and try secretly record you without your knowledge!! To sum up make sure you pack plenty of snacks before staying here or plan to go elsewhere for meals.

Two stars for the friendly staff and the clean rooms. Unfortunately, the food was the worst on my trip to Sri Lanka. This was not due to the chef, but to the very poor quality and the small selection. After criticism, managers treat you unkindly. But this is exactly where the problem lies. I would recommend other hotels in the area.

A great hotel right next to the national park, very large rooms with a great view over the national park. When we were there there were hardly any other guests there - just great. The buffet in the evening was unfortunately not so good and only inside (food was always cold). Pool and view were awesome.

We were upgraded on arrival and our room had a view of the lake. We only stayed one night but everything was perfect. Very clean and well organised hotel. Buffet dinner and breakfast very good. Staff very friendly and helpful. We had a great safari seeing many elephants.

Pluses and some minuses. Staff friendly and very attentive Drinks are cheap Great position for the park Big rooms Decor is very very tired and old fashioned The food was shocking, cold and just plain horrid There were flies all over the salads The breakfast chef made my wife a raw omelette, me raw fried eggs and my daughter refused to eat anything. The Manager did his best to appease us by making sandwiches for our journey unsurprisingly none of us ate them. It did its job as we stayed for only one night but don’t expect much if you are staying in some of the nicer hotels on your trip.

Hotel has a great entrance and wonderful views from the rooftop and some balconies. There is a very large restaurant and the hotel caters for large tour groups so can be very busy or really empty. One evening, we and 5 other couples ate there dinner outside around the lovely pool and were served a la carte menu as we were the only people there, the next it was full with a couple of coach tours. The rooms are very nice, large with lovely entrance doors and large bathrooms with unusual showers and great views from the large balconies. There are various areas of the hotel that are dated like most hotels in Sri Lanka.

A good hotel, a little dated but the staff make up for it. Very keen to do well, nothing too much trouble and very well positioned for the Elephant Transit Centre and the Udawalawe Safari park. The room was fine, quiet, clean and comfortable, (good enough for the Royals, Edward and Sophie in 2018) and the view of the dam and surrounding lake with resident wild animals was excellent. Large bull elephant a water buffalo regular visitors. Would suggest the Dining room needs an upgrade and freshen up, the buffet needs some innovation and some new poolside cushions would be a welcome addition…. Great for a short stay (we stayed two nights ) whilst visiting the wild life areas and the manager Sanjaya Bandara was welcoming and professional throughout our stay.
