We stayed at Richard’s Cabanas for 4 nights. We booked the whole package that included food and trips. We were really happy to have done this because it took all the hassle out of doing this ourselves. The room was one of the 2 pool walkout room. The room was great with a huge wet room bathroom. The bedroom had a double bed with a really comfortable mattress. It had places to hang clothes but no wardrobe. It wasn’t really a problem as we were used to living out of our cases. The trips were well organised with the half day birdwatching safari probably being our favourite. We were taken out by Amila’s uncle. He was so knowledgeable and really enthusiastic about the wildlife, it was contagious. We did the full day safari and saw elephants, a leopard, water buffalo and a bear. It is a long day but you don’t have to stay all the way until the park closes, just ask your driver to get you back. The staff couldn’t do more to make our stay any more pleasurable. We had a great time and would highly recommend.

One of those places for which the scale should go up to 11 or 12. Amila (who possibly wins the prize for 'nicest man in the universe') and his team are perfect hosts. Friendly, efficient, fantastic breakfasts (you can choose different things every day), nice swimming pool, very clean, the grounds are beautiful and very well kept. Paradise like. I could go on... And I will.... they organised two perfect safari's for us, one full day Yala and a half day Bundala. Tarindo, their wonderful driver, linked to Richard's Cabanas, needs a special refence here. He's great. How is it possible someone can see so many hidden things while driving, which we would never see in a million years while trying, I have no Idea. While we were there, they opened a new - and really good looking - place to have dinner. Where great food was served. We had three of our dinners there and regretted not having done 4. Let's just hope, dear reader, it is not too late yet for you to make a booking. They are often full. For very good reasons. O, almost forgot. Stay a few nights and use one day to use one of their bicycles for a self-made tour around the lake. The scenery is fantastic and the red roads are magical in between the palm trees.

Had the best time at Richard’s Cabanas. We stayed for 4 nights and didn’t want to leave. The hospitality we received was so incredible. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We arranged safari tours and sunset seeing tuk tuk tours through the hotel. Both were amazing and we saw so much wildlife (leopards, elephants, snakes, hornbills, owls, mongoose, crocodiles). At Richard’s Cabanas we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here everyday and it was exceptional. The vegetarian curry was delicious and came with lots of different curries and vegetables to try. The room was peaceful, very comfortable and private with our own outdoor seating area overlooking the river. The pool was also a highlight especially the comfy beanbags. Richard’s Cabanas is filled with an abundance of bird life and beautiful plants. Another highlight was using the bikes provided to cycle around the banana fields and spotting lots of monitor lizards. Thanks again for a truly memorable and relaxing stay, we hope to return one day.

Absolutely amazing! The place is a family run hotel. They gave us a delicious mango smoothie on arrival from their garden! Their menu and food is also amazing. They really went above and beyond for us. I have travelled a lot and this was seriously the best accommodation I’ve had. The place felt so private but also within walking distance of the town. The pool area felt like a retreat and the bedroom was beautiful. thank you so much!

Great small resort with lovely pool and beautiful garden! They prepare and serve the best home cooked food from their own vegetable garden. Very nice and cosy cabanas with both airco and fan. And it smells lovely everywhere you go. The owner Amila and his family arrange all you need to enjoy your stay whether it is a tuktuk ride, a Yala safari with breakfast in a basket, biking tours, yoga or ayurveda treatment, birdwatching tours of just enjoy the stars and fireflies in the evening in their garden!

We had a wonderful stay at Richard’s cabanas with the 2 nights package: nice lunch, great tuktuk drive to see birds and at the end the thousands of bats flying out. Next day full day private safari, picknick on the beach and with 2 sightings of leopards! Dinner and breakfast. Clean room, delicious meals and peaceful garden with lovely swimming pool. Amila, his father and all staff were wonderful, kind and made our stay unforgettable. Thank you!

We loved our stay here in the poolside rooms at Richards Cabanas set back away from the main road. So peaceful and calm with beautifully tended gardens- a very tranquil haven. Beautiful pool which we enjoyed until 12 noon check out. Wonderful breakfast with so many different choices all beautifully presented. A very aesthetic experience.

I can highly recommend this accommodation! I see some reviews that really surprise me and that are at odds with our experiences! We had something to celebrate, as it was my wife's birthday and I wanted to surprise her. We arrived before check-in time and were able to get into the room right away. The air conditioning was already on. By the way, we also slept fantastically in the good bed! We also got a bottle of wine with dinner and a cake was provided. All of this was arranged through personal contact via WhatsApp, without any down payment. I would therefore advise booking this accommodation directly via the website or via WhatsApp, so that you can make your wishes known immediately. The next day, after a delicious breakfast, we spent the whole day at the lovely pool, also without any extra costs being charged. Every now and then we got a drink or a fresh coconut, without us asking for it. In short: the people of this accommodation are not at all after money and are mainly committed to giving guests a good time. If we ever find ourselves in Sri Lanka again, we will definitely come back!
