We stayed for one night prior to a cruise from Dover. On arrival the buildings and grounds look spectacular. Checked in quickly and our room was ready earlier than the 3pm start time. The room was very hot due to it being the hottest day of the year, but was clean, though dated and needing an upgrade. In the evening we ate in the restaurant on site. The food was good, though the french fries were obviously frozen though advertised as Skin on chips. I realise that this is because we noted that there was only one chef cooking as well as doing his own dishwashing. The rest of the hotel that evening was being run by two young men. One a local lad the other from Asia. Both men were charming and helpful, though rushed off their feet serving at the bar, restaurant, reception, etc. Service suffered with long waits, items forgotten, and us having to eventually chase one down to order deserts. On the menu they advertise filter coffee and Americano. I ordered an Americano from one man, and told only filter was available. The other man then came and said they had fixed the machine and I could have my Americano. What actually arrived was filter. I had to give up at this point. Breakfast was the highlight of the stay. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for myself were perfect. Full English for my wife, she said was good. I doubt we would return.
