The Royal Oak Tetbury

We booked a weekend away in Tetbury for a family birthday celebration. We stayed at the nearby “Acorn House” (which is owned by the pub owners) & some of our family booked rooms at the pub. We all had a fantastic celebration meal in the restaurant & the food was amazing! Very attentive staff that looked after us all evening. In the morning we all met up again in the pub for a fantastic breakfast & all our family that stayed at the pub overnight agreed that their rooms were lovely clean & very comfortable. I’d highly recommend the Royal Oak for food & accommodation for a great trip to the Cotswolds.

We loved our room; it was so aesthetically pleasing AND comfortable. The man working in the pub was great, helpful, and served us delicious breakfasts each day we were there. Tetbury was so lovely and we enjoyed walking around town. We also had dinner here twice and really enjoyed that also. It was amazing compared to our hotel we stayed in the previous 3 nights and we were so relieved to have a comfortable place to stay.

We booked a dining room for our Christmas family meet up, we were all coming from different directions and Tetbury was about half way for everyone. We all had an awful journey because the M4 was so busy everyone arrived late, some by one and a half hours! We have to say a big thank you to all the team for being so accommodating! The kitchen stayed open for an extra half hour, the food was lovely, the waiting staff very patient, we were a family of fourteen with lots of young children. Can't thank you enough for being so helpful and making our Christmas gathering such a success! Best wishes to you all for 2025!

Looks delightful from outside. It was busy in the bar and I found the chappie serving us rather abrasive and unwelcoming. Ordered our meals and three came together and the last one about five minutes later. Was surprised that our fish and chips comprised of very few chips - which were lukewarm - however the fish was hot and tasty. I rarely write reviews - usually if I’ve had a fabulous time or rarely a poor experience. This time it was poor.

We walked up here in the day and thought from the outside it looked charming so booked a table online for later for dinner for 2 of us and the dog! However, what we should have done was go inside. When we returned later for our table we discovered the charm has been totally stripped inside. Very few features of an old pub left, tables crammed in, and no atmosphere. We had booked so thought we’d stay. Told lad on the bar we had table he said was upstairs but for 3 children. I explained I’d booked online for 2 adults and a dog. He proceeded to get the iPad to ‘prove’ the booking was for 3 children in restaurant. I explained we had the dog and it was two adults again and he said he’d try to sort it. We had a drink whilst we waited. He ignored us for 10 minutes and did nothing to seem to sort it. As we neared the end of our drinks he came over to say he’d ‘kick’ someone off a table and pointed to a table by the toilets. We politely declined. A real shame.

Came for a quiet dinner on a Monday night. They had a large party in the restaurant upstairs but service was still very good. Food delicious, nice to have a choice of 3 veggie mains! Had visited before for Sunday lunch which was excellent and will be back again for dinner.
