Pleasant small hotel. Onsen is nice. There is a second one outside, which can be accessed by a door at the main onsen. No bathroom in room. Was adjacent to a smoking room which was annoying

Very old building, no A/C, tatami is dirty, outdoor public bath is full of dead flies and indoor public bath surrounded by mould
Apparently need maintenance and renovation
My husband and I couldn’t sleep all night because need sharing of bathroom, wall and door of room is too thin that hear everyone walking and talking when they pass by, that’s too noisy
Only pro is they include dinner and breakfast ( but don’t expect too much on the food )

I made a reservation through Agoda for two middle-aged men, and the price including breakfast was 8,900 yen per person. There are no restaurants around the inn, so it's easier to add dinner so you can eat in your yukata after the bath. The hot spring is behind Mount Io, so I thought it would smell like sulfur, but it was tasteless and odorless. The water is good and flows directly from the source. It was quite hot for me. There was an open-air bath outside that you could enter wearing slip-ons. It was not a mixed bath.

I stayed here to visit the hot springs and explore Mt. Iou, and it was very conveniently located, just a 3-minute walk from Kawayu Onsen. The hot spring I was looking for was a natural hot spring, just as I expected. Mt. Iou was just a 20-30 minute walk from the inn on a snowy road, so it was very convenient.
