Head for the hills…and the dancing daffodils. In the expansive grounds of a 16th-century timber-framed house, this is the perfect retreat à deux. Way up a simple track, your stone-walled, stone-tiled hideaway was built almost entirely from locally reclaimed materials. Inside it's open plan and easy. Settle on the weighty leather chesterfield, toes directed at a wood-burner stacked high with logs from the nearby woods. The kitchen, of hand-crafted oak, has masses of space, a double Belfast sink and proper wooden floorboards throughout. Exposed beams frame the bright bedroom; the shower room is a step away. It would be a treat of an evening to follow the babbling brook through the ancient orchid-dotted woodland, rest awhile at the owner's perfect little treehouse (with hammocks), then retire to your own private viewpoint with its picture-postcard views across open pastures to the Teme and Kyre valleys. Venture further to foodie Ludlow, book-lined Hay-on-Wye and the grand industrial heritage that is Ironbridge. Take to the slow life on the steam railway, stride out on the Mortimer Trail, meander through forgotten Herefordshire villages. Buzzards soar overhead, rabbits scamper in the fields that surround you.The Coach House is a studio conversion situated in the grounds of Fishpools which is a traditional 16th century timber framed house. It is reached via quarter of a mile track and is in a very rural position. Guests will enjoy a south facing private decked area with far reaching views across fields and farmland which is perfect for watching the sun go down. Let the kids and dogs roam free!Stealing its name from the backdrop of ancient undisturbed woodland, the cottage and its surrounds make a natural family home – for both frazzled humans and local badgers. Winding your way up the long peaceful track to this converted stable, you catch glorious glimpses of the Teme and Kyre valleys; the setting is spectacular. On arrival, you're greeted by the delightful Ellie, whose grounds and beautifully tended English country garden you share. Generous windows flood rooms with light that bounces off polished elm floorboards; a wood-burner and Aga keep things cosy, the kitchen is handcrafted, the views are long and bucolic. Upstairs, bedrooms are brass-bedded and floral, tucked under the eaves in that cottagey way. You get a handy loo and basin up here, and a sparkling bathroom with a roll top tub downstairs. Lucky children have seven acres to romp in, and a secret treehouse with hammocks and a barbecue for midnight feasts. Resting on the borders of three counties, this is prime walking country. "I stayed at the hotel to be close to a venue I needed to be the next day.
The hotel was clean and staff were available and friendly.
Free parking is available.
The hotel is very near a co op supermarket and petrol station. There is a pub restaurent next door the Squrriel which uses taste card. If you plan to eat there make a reservation and eat early.
The town is nearby but would be a bit of a walk and I didn't see any bus stops for local transport links. The town of Ludlow is only a few minutes and free parking available after 6 pm behind town square. Again could be a good idea to book a table if you need dinner.
This is a good Travelodge to stay at."
