Our second visit to this fabulous place. In the most glorious location with wonderful views, also access to places of interest such as Lydford Gorge, Devil’s Cauldron, Cotehele, Buckland Abbey, Tavistock and Dartmoor. This time we had the Gourmet three night stay. We had a very friendly warm greeting. Our ground floor room, described as ‘cosy’ was more than adequate size with every comfort, the balcony was lovely to sit on in the sunshine, with the views to behold. The food and service were outstanding. Sitting enjoying the views. The flavours and presentation were exquisite. Breakfasts too were delicious. A special shout out to the lovely Sarah. We really loved our stay and are looking forward to the next one.

Interesting hotel. It is very peaceful, not busy mid week, booking the special two for one night offer. Lovely staff who were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was quite small but adequate. Lovely comfortable bed and nice bathroom with bath. Food nouvelle cuisine. Lovely grounds to walk around. Wonderful garden to visit near by The Garden House. A great little break.

I was disappointed with the whole experience . I had heard good things from friends & this was a special occasion. The food was ok but defensibly not matching the price on either quality or quantity. The desserts were very disappointing . We were not asked if we would like more drinks at all . The dirty glasses were left on the table . We had to ask a couple of times for things we had ordered but had not arrived. The restaurant only had a few tables in so was not busy . The location, decor & views were the only redeeming factor ..

We stayed for a 5 night break (18-23 May 2025) as part of short holiday. I note that we have been coming to the hotel every year since about 2017, so this must have been our 9th annual visit; which must be recommendation indeed. We stayed in Room 3 on this occasion. It was very comfortable, spacious and welcoming, with a superb private balcony. Gourmet food has always one of the main reasons for coming to The Horn of Plenty and we have never been disappointed. We comprise a “true veggie and a no-fish” couple which one might assume presents some challenges to the chef and his team. However, the restaurant manager and the chef have always ensured that we had good choices over the five days (even though you had quite a short menu in previous years). The new menus are terrific and enable comprehensive choices for our menu preferences. In particular the A La Carte was a great addition to the Table d'Hote and Tasting menus. My wife was particularly impressed with the new menus, and she said that the Tasting menu during our stay was exceptional (Tom the chef, had organised some interesting and superb alternatives to the fishy and non-veg courses). In particular, Tom had prepared a bespoke course of mushroom tartare for us instead of one of the fish dishes. It was superb. Sarah, Douglas and the team were particularly professional, attentive and polite, even on occasions when the tables were very busy. The lady who served our breakfasts on several mornings was also very attentive and helpful. It was good to see the owner for a few days while we were there and we were glad that the high standards of the hotel had been well maintained and improved, with some upgrading and re-decorating, despite the alleged current period of fiscal hardship within the hotel industry and the wider UK.  We would have found name-badges to be a useful addition to your services; we would have liked to mention particular staff members, but appreciate that they might prefer to be "anonymous".  We look forward to seeing the staff and hotel again on our next trip  - and also thank them for arranging the good weather for us all week.

Our second visit and we thought the food had improved. A small menu but better thought out and presented. Staff as excellent as before, rooms tastefully furnished and amazing reviews. Some excellent canapes and lovely treats with our coffees greatly added to the dining experience. One minor point would be that between courses it would be ideal if staff could remove any breadcrumbs messy guests like ourselves leave all over the table (having eaten too much of the lovely bread). Finally I hope that the owners have booked the buildings in for some external decoration over the next year or so as whilst it looks fine this year, next year it may begin to look tired but that is being very picky! I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and restaurant to any one who likes a relaxed, quality experience. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with attentive staff and offers it's guests something a little special, well done to everyone involved with The Horn of Plenty.
