“An Unexpected Maze of Delight”
If you’re looking for delicious food, sparkling clean rooms, and the kind of hotel layout that makes you question whether you’ve accidentally entered a witness protection program — this is the place for you.
Let’s start with the food: Chef’s kiss. I’d drive across three postcodes and two mildly illegal U-turns just to have their breakfast again. The scrambled eggs? Fluffy little clouds of joy. The bacon? So crispy it filed for emancipation. And the dinner? Let’s just say I proposed to my dessert.
The room? Immaculate. Clean enough to perform surgery in. I dropped a piece of popcorn behind the bedside table and found absolutely no dust, no suspicious stains, and no mystery hair. 10/10, would snoop again.
Now… the layout.
Imagine booking a room at a lovely hotel. You check in at the front desk, all smiles and suitcases, and then they hand you a map that looks like it was drawn by a drunk pirate. “Just follow the driveway, take a left at the third bush, go behind the laundry shed, ignore the goats (they’re decorative), and your room is the one just past the third time you question your life choices.”
I drove around the back like I was trying to escape from the FBI. Every turn felt like a side quest. I found myself in areas where I wasn’t sure if I was still on hotel property or had entered Narnia. Google Maps gave up. Even Siri was like, “Dude, you’re on your own.”
BUT — once I did find my room, it was like discovering a hidden treasure. Peaceful, quiet, with views of a tree that may or may not have judged me. And honestly? It was all part of the charm. You don’t forget a place like this.
Would I stay again? Absolutely. I just might drop breadcrumbs next time so I can find my way back.
After the room was remodeled, some places still had some old traces. The scenery of Lake Taobo is very good, and the meals included are also good. Under economic permits, it is good to stay for one or two nights.

I stayed at the motel for the first time, but I didn't expect it to be really good. The room is quite big, very clean and has everything you need every day. The hotel is also more than ten minutes walk from the visitor center, supermarket and lake. This price is the cheapest one in the trip so far, and the price is very high. The hotel is an old couple, the people are very kind, the old lady is in charge of the front desk, and the old man is responsible for taking us to the room. There is a fat cat in his family called Domino, and her husband played with her for a long time, but unfortunately the two languages can't communicate.
It's a small and neat motel. The man at the front desk is very nice. There is WIFI, a microwave and an electric hot pot. There are also many restaurants near the lake. I will stay here next time I come to Taupo.
Service is not bad, in the center of the town, very close to the lake. There is Chinese service, service is not bad, health is good. And parking space, parking is convenient, very close to McDonald's, it is unreasonable to check out at 10 am, check out is constantly urged, it feels very bad.
The front desk service is very friendly. The room and living room are large, the kitchen facilities are complete, parking is convenient, and you can see Lake Taupo outside the window. The scenery is excellent. It is a 15-minute drive from Huka Falls.
Room is clean, tidy and spacious. Nice to have a balcony but it is by the side of road. A private kitchen or kitchenette is not included but there is a large common kitchen in the 2/F. Like most hotels or motels there, there is nobody in the reception counter from 8:40 pm to 10 am next day. Good to have free undercover on-site parking.
I stayed just one night. There were 3 people in my room and 8 people is available in my room. There were 4 bunk beds and i stayed the below one. It was so low ceiling so i hit my head so many times 🤣
The bed was not dirty but not clean. The kitchen was small but i think it was enough.
So i am almost satisfied with the hotel. I stayed Haka house Rotorua before, so I expected that Haka house in Taupo also be same quality. But in Rotorua was better hahah please check my review of Haka house Rotorua🙂
