The scenery is beautiful, the inn that two old couples have run for forty years is full of art and family, and the two twin dogs are full of vitality. The only drawback is that breakfast starts regularly at 8:30, 8:00 will be awakened in advance with Italian opera... like to get up late and social fear choose carefully. However, dining at the same table with tourists from all over the world is actually a very interesting experience.

We stayed for 2 nights. You certainly can’t beat the view of the lake! Lovely gardens and our room had a patio and views over the lake. Chris, the chef, prepared some wonderful canapés and wine for us around 6.30pm This is an easy drive into town, although on the edge of Taupo, so either drive or take an Uber. Amenities were very good. Plentiful supply of towels and a lovely big bathroom and storage/hanging area. Great car parking

A high recommend! Such a wonderful welcome by Gary to such a special place. The view from the lake suite was unbelievable. The food was scrumptious with artful and delicious breakfast cooked to order by Chris. The evening cocktail hour was a lovely way to meet guests and to pick the brains of Victoria and Chris as to activities to do in Taupo. Everything was top-notch, and we felt welcomed, refreshed, and spoiled. If you stay, please take time to wander through the incredible gardens.

Our experience at Lake Taupo Lodge was absolutely fantastic! The team has created a wonderful amalgamation of luxury and homeliness. Just one call out, not a negative but something to be aware of, note this is less like a formal hotel and more of a lodge / bed & breakfast. The service was impeccable, with a breakfast catered to our dietary restrictions, our room remade multiple times a day, and lovely advice and chatter in between. The bathrooms are spacious and modern, with beautiful views. The rooms, while slightly older, are super comfortable and spacious. I didn’t want to leave - I felt right at home and so calm with the stunning setting of the lodge.

Most beautiful views of my life! Incredible hospitality from friendly owners, gorgeous architecture, only ~7 rooms for and intimate feel, perfectly appointed rooms, all with great views of the lake. What sets it apart also is the exceptional landscaping and gardens. A lifetime’s passion and work is simply stunning. Would return over and over again if i could.

What a place! All the excellent reviews are true in what they say - superb views, fantastic rooms, excellent service and Gary and Chris cater for your every need. Chris' home made granola is splendid. This is not staying at a "Lodge" but in reality staying with friends at their superb home. I think I can honestly say that probably the best place I have stayed at when travelling.

Lake Taupo Lodge is over the top amazing! Gary and Shirley have done a beautiful job of keeping this property in the best of condition! My husband and I stayed in the Wright Suite for the last 3 nights and it was wonderful! Beautiful shower, wonderful room and comfortable bed, lovely outdoor terrace to view the beautiful lake and beautiful sunrise with the sounds of nature all around you. The grounds are outstanding with beautiful gardens and lovely topiary everywhere. Excellent coffee maker, fantastic breakfast and great recommendations for dinner in Taupo. Taxi service was easy and quick and we found many fun bars, etc. in town. We even were able to watch our hometown team from the USA play Monday night football. Spent two nights in the lodge and wish we had stayed longer. Gary, Shirley, and Chris do a great job. The rooms are large, well decorated and very comfortable, combined with the breakfasts which are wonderful and the afternoon wine and canapés are a top touch. The view and location is magnificent, the house, gardens are well designed. Gary's hospitality was spot on. We loved to hear his amazing tales from his business and life adventures. Would recommend staying at the Lake Taupo Lodge.
