Nice and clean hotel. But the melting snow is not easy to walk on. ( For visit in June) It will be good if the commentary for walks or for night slide show can be in English as well. The staff are very polite and helpful. Delicious dinner too. Lastly thanks for giving me a room with wonderful view at level 4. Windows can be opened and air is very fresh. Free tea and coffee and selected timing. Souvenir shop and public bath are good too.

The hotel in the middle of the moutain. Indeed!!!
The hotel is just short walk from the bus stop. Room was huge, well equiped with amenities. They also provide the skin care as well. The hotel dinner was really good. It was the japanese course with free flow drink. (Sake, Fruit liquir, beer, soft drink). There are a lot of activities inc. Walking on Midagahara wetlands, stargage (japanese only). The hotel is just next to Midagahara wetland which you can enjoy the view of seacloud in the evening and the stunning view of glassland and the mountain in the morning. 10 of 10.

For anyone travelling along the Tateyama Alpine route, I would highly recommed a stay on the mountain so you can enjoy the scenery without rushing. We love Ryokan (Traditional Japanese Inn) because they always offer delicious course meals (dinner & breakfast) and a public bath. We even enjoyed a free flow of local sake and liquor at dinner! The Midagahara Hotel even offer hiking guides, boots and stargazing guides after dinner. It was a shame that we did not take the hiking trail due to the weather condition (foggy and low visibility), but the stargazing part did not disappoint - we were able to see a sky full of stars by our bare eyes. If we could withstand the cold we could have seen the Milky Way. The hotel shop also offers a wide range of local specialties. We had a nice sleep in our Japanese style room and woke up to a sea of clouds. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to the Tateyama Alpine route.

The snow hiking arranged by the hotel was a very good experience. The guests changed into the high boots provided by the hotel and went snow hiking under the guidance of the staff. The staff was very professional and careful, guiding the guests on the skills of snow walking and helping everyone take photos. After dinner, there was an introduction to the Tateyama Scenic Area and the hotel in the lobby, and then there was stargazing. Although the hotel is quite old, it is clean, the rooms are large, and the service is very good.
