Back from our short visit to Kintyre mainly for a day's cycling on Ghia. We had lunch at the Glenbarr cafe and stayed overnight after a pootle around Campbelltown. Very welcoming staff and a lovely lunch outside, the food was good and plentiful too as was breakfast the following day. This is truly a lovely place to stay, staff were welcoming and lovely and the accommodation top notch. This is a well thought out business and everyone are to be congratulated. The House is a must stay if you are anywhere near the area for ferries or just visiting. We'd go back without hesitation.

Although now under new ownership this is our second stay at 'the house of Glenbarr'. Once again we were not dissapointed. Stayed in the Hayloft, so a small eating kitchen , large bedroom with sitting area. Immaculate bedding, towels and bath robes. Daily cleaning service. Very comfortable. Breakfasting the garden centre next door was local produce, staff very attentive and helpful. There was access to the outside area in the evening but as the weather was chilly we didn't use, on a nice evening this would be a lovely place to sit and chill. The village itself is very small, although not visible from the village the beach is 5 minutes away. Campbelltown 20 min uses by car. The coastline is stunning. We will return

Welcoming, comfortable and beautiful. Lovely rooms, wonderful facilities and a great location an outstanding deli gift shop and a fantastic café where I could get vegan food. An outstanding team who went into overdrive when my puppy hurt her paw. Getting us to a vets and pulling out all the stops I’ll give them 100 straight up excellent

It is rare to see a place so well reviewed and I was a little sceptical the place could really live up to such outstanding ratings. However really did! Excellent location, beautiful rooms and most helpful and friendly staff. Strongly recommended

A dour, unwelcoming person in the shop turned out to be the owner. Rude, abrupt and soul-less with no sense of humour and much less in the way of charm. Interested in money, however, as she wanted £110 for myself and my little pup in one room for one night. I peaked through a window at the room which was decent enough and looked comfortable. The House however, which is a useless name for a property when you're trying to ask locals in the area where it might be, is plain and has no outlook whatsoever. Please avoid this place like the plague and hope that it fails as a business and that someone with a sense of warm hospitality and a degree of realism about economics takes it over and runs it like it should be run. This woman actually does a disservice to the area and would put anyone off staying there. Nearby, particularly by car, there are several delightful places to stay and to enjoy wonderful scenery and meals at much keener prices. The House doesn't even offer a decent breakfast, apparently, but on days when the adjoining cafe is open you can buy breakfast at additional cost. It's almost laughable if it wasn't an affront to traditional Scottish hospitality. Don't go near it till someone who deserves to run their own business gets a hold of it and revamps the whole customer experience. Even then, I have to say there are much more dramatic locations a stone's throw away with wonderful people running them, delightful staff and menus to cheer you up no end. I would not stay in The House even it was free accommodation. Life is too short to deal with vacuous and money- grabbing leeches passing themselves off as your Scottish host for a memorable stay. Go elsewhere...in fact go anywhere else.

Spotlessly clean and superbly comfortable rooms. Full kitchen access and great location for stayin on Kintyre. George was an excellent, helpful host and it was an absolute pleasure staying there. Would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat. Also, I need to find alpaca bedding!!! It's the best!!

Lovely hotel, we stayed in the loft, which has got a separate kitchen and lounge area. Very nice touch to have 2 pints of milk waiting in the fridge. Cleanliness is of a very high standard. The carpets were thick and bouncy, must have had a refurb not too long ago. Shower was s bit tricky to get to the right temperature but got there in the end. Duvet was filled with alpaca wool, very comfy as was the bed itself. Breakfast was in the cafe of the attached garden centre. Very tasty.and very good service. Really nothing to complain about, only that we should have planned to stay longer than the 1 night….

Central location for exploring Kintyre. The room was tastefully decorated and very well appointed. There is a lounge area with kitchen facilities which is available for guests from the five rooms. Breakfasts in the cafe were excellent - scrambled eggs and smoked salmon is my favourite. Staff in the shop and garden centre were very helpful - in short, we had a very enjoyable 3 night stay and we will be back!

We spent three nights staying in the Hayloft. This is basically a suite with double bedroom cum sitting room, shower room , hallway with window and kitchen. The kitchen has a fridge , small induction hob and microwave. It is extremely comfortable and quiet. We didn’t really use the kitchen facilities but they are enough to make simple meals. The shower room is warm with copious hot water and high quality hand and body wash from the nearby island Gigha. Breakfast is served in the cafe and offers a superb array. There are no evening meals but you can order a cold platter which will be left in the fridge. We tried them all and they were excellent. Campbeltown is about a 15 min drive and has restaurants though we didn’t try them. The shop is well stocked. The whole set up, B and B, shop , cafe and garden centre is very well integrated. The attention to detail and quality is first rate. They use local suppliers as far as possible . The owners have a farm nearby and you can buy their excellent meat in the shop. The staff are lovely. I cannot recommend Glenbarr Stores highly enough. Kintyre is huge and there is lots to see and do. The views of Jura and Islay from the west side are stunning. The walk at low tide onto the island Davaar , off Campbeltown, is well worthwhile. There are some stunning caves there though we struggled to find the one with the painting of the Resurrection. Cycle hire ( including e -bikes) is available on Gigha and this is a great option for exploring a beautiful island with a stunning coast line and beaches. It’s only a 20 min ferry trip away. There is an excellent seafood restaurant there as well as a seafood takeaway beside the little shop. However the last ferry back is 17.30 so the restaurant is not really an option for dinner unless you stay on the island. We’ll certainly be back and next time will swim off some of the numerous stunning local beaches.
