Simple and authentic, and Juan is a great host who can cook and is generous with local information. He speaks excellent English too. Tarbena is a good centre for walking and probably for cycling too. We would happily stay again. Take ear plugs as the bells re very loud.

This is an excellent small hotel in rural Spain. We received a wonderful welcome from the owner, who also provided excellent home cooked meals. Stayed here two nights As part of a hiking trip, and each night he offered a choice of several mains, complemented by delicious soups and appetizers. Juan was also very helpful in providing local guidance re hiking trails nearby, including a recommended detour, and shared Gpx files to assist with navigation. The room itself was spacious, clean and comfortable, with good wifi (we had been told there may not have been) Would definitely recommend

My room was small by most people's standards but it was perfect for me. I needed somewhere for just one night and I was treated like a regular visitor, with a lovely breakfast in the morning. I have been trying to speak more Spanish, my attitude is at least try the national language as it shows respect. Juan was really helpful and would always speak to me first in Spanish then help me understand, I definitely learnt more in my short stay! Juan is a very kind man (Juan es un hombre muy simpatico) and apologises for absolutely everything even if it is beyond his control, such as the local church bells being noisy. My only negative experience was the hotel sign was very small so I missed it a couple of times, Juan said he was going to sort out a larger sign for future guests. I would definitely go back here for another stay

Amazing hotel. Family run, with some real personal touches. Juan is an amazing host and Chef. Enjoyed the wine, food and walking. Great informative hosts who can’t do enough, including drying boots! Highly recommended!

Travelling with partner on InnTravel trek in winter when Andalusia obviously doesn’t have its natural advantages. Thoroughly enjoyed Juan’s warm welcome, complimentary glass of wine, and a large room with comfortable bed. As others have noted he really can cook and is unfazed by a gluten-free requirement.

We spent 6 days hiking from village to village, 2 nights we spent at Hotel De Tárbena, and I give the small inn the highest rating. The rooms are spacious, clean, modern, with fantastic views of the village, the mountains and on a clear day the Mediterranean. The location is in the center of the old village, next to the church and a nice cafe. The owner, Juan, cooked wonder meals, accommodating for a vegetarian and gluten allergy. Juan is a gourmet chef and our best meals in the 10 days in Spain came at his table. Juan is also a wonderful raconteur and told us many interesting stories about local history and geography. He has great taste in music and I enjoyed sitting in the lobby listening.

We stayed here with Inntravel and the hotel is wonderful. Juan is an excellent cook - the local fish was particularly good (as was the wine!!) - and could not have been more kind and helpful. Highly recommended
