Hotel Villa Esperia

Stayed here for 3 nights during an organized tour of southern Italy. Had it been our choice for the hotel, we would have chosen another venue. If the very small lift in the front entrance is out of order, it would be a harrowing experience for mobility challenged persons to climb the front steps to the hotel. Our room was very comparable to a 3 star room in Cuba (which is not saying much). The room was clean but showed its age. The bathroom lacked toiletries - so bring your own. Our bathroom door would not close, (the latch was broken). The panel to flush the toilet would get stuck. No Kleenex in bathroom. The hair dryer fell off the Titanic. Breakfast was subpar - runny eggs, raw bacon, sparse selection of pastries - wait staff inattentive. Front desk staff was on guard constantly watching for those drinking beverages in the lobby that were not purchased at the bar. Beware: you pay a 5.00 Euro NONREFUNDABLE FEE to use the pool towels. The pool was freezing cold! Be very careful while being seated in the old lounge chairs - my husband almost amputated his finger! You take your life in your hands exiting the hotel onto the street. The Hotel is situated on a curved road where there are no sidewalks. Be very careful walking to the nearby little corner store or the Funicular climb to Taormina. Cars are literally right beside you on the roadway!

The staff were fantastic. Comfortable room and excellent location. Special thanks to Guiseppe for his friendly conversation and the young lady who arranged for my flowers to be brought up to the room on my partners birthday morning. Lovely atmosphere all round. Thank you all.

Cannot speak highly enough for this hotel, we booked 2 superior rooms and they were over the looking the pool absolutely stunning. Staff exceptional and all so friendly and helpful, big thank you to Mario, you are a star ⭐️ drinks service by the pool, clean rooms, good location, yes the cable car can be busy but didn’t spoil anything about our trip to Taormina, stunning views, great shops, restaurants and bars near the hotel. Thank you for making our holiday special!

3.5 is the score that I really wanted to give, and this is why: The hotel is pleasant and functional as a base to explore the Taormina area and beyond being close to all amenities required. The cable car is 5 minutes away, the beach and sea the same. A quick note on the Cable Car, it is not the only method of travel to the main centre of Taormina, it is however quite easy and convenient and at €10 return not overly expensive, be warned that it can get very busy with each car well filled with hot sweating bodies...... 🥵 Would recommend on occasion the walk down from Taormina than the walk up! Back to the hotel: The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, always there to help and guide. The rooms are functional, air conditioned, clean with house keeping in each day to make the beds and replenish towels. The hot water supply can be intermittent at busy times, tip is to grab a shower early or embrace a wakening cooler shower 🚿. Breakfast is fine, there is something for everyone, be it sometimes unusual with the cooked breakfast serving up a selection of hot vegetables, my advice to the hotel is stick to the peppers, onions and zucchini rather than the broccoli and green beans. Scrambled eggs, sausage & bacon along with boiled eggs are available along with a wide variety of pasties, cakes and cheesecake! Cereals, yogurts,, cheese, ham, salad and fruit (would like some more choice of fruit) as well as plenty of different bread to toast or how you like it. Drinks are okay, unfortunately there is no fresh fruit juice, the diluted concentrate is not brilliant. Tea and coffee is fine. We didn't eat at the restaurant for anything else as there were plenty of lovely restaurants to choose in Taormina. The hotel pool is good. However, there is little shade as no parasols are available, could really do with some as it was very hot. So generally, the hotel makes a good base for which to set out and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Isola Bella and Taormina.

Really nice staff, very friendly and happy to help. Looks to be very clean, although some areas could do with tlc eg. the walls could do with being repainted and some of the mirrors have stains on and the bathtub is yellowed and leaks when you shower for too long. Great views and location. A really calm and quiet atmosphere. The pool could do with parasols, there were none and it is very easy to get burnt or overheated. The breakfast was nice and simple and had everything you needed. Only negative about the breakfast was the hot vegetable options - they only had peas and broccoli and carrots? I am unsure if this is normal in Italy though.

Hotel have a good position, 5 min walk to cable car and same to the beach. Rooms are like 3 stars. They sell 4 type of rooms but.. I booked a superior room and at reception they gave us a classic room, when I asked for room I booked they said the rooms are the same.. so.. don’t bother to pay for a superior bcs you get a clasic one.. pay clasic room and maybe you get a superior one.. rooms were clean.breakfast it’s Italian style.. some pasticeria, eggs, yoghurt,ham and cheese .. juice and coffe..nothing changes in our 4 days.
