What to say very nice reception, very nice room, very nice pub, very nice beer, very nice hospitality, very nice price and all with smile 😊. Every thing was expected bonus was the pub was rammed for the big game United v Newcastle so great great atmosphere with all the local guys.

I had pre-booked through an online firm called Genius but the hotel had no notice of this but very helpfully gave me the bridal suite (Room 6) for the very moderate rate I had agreed with Genius. The room was large and well-heated with a modern ensuite bathroom. The four-poster bed was covered with a down duvet and I slept very comfortably. The full English breakfast was faultless with a choice of brown or white toast, jams and marmalade. I was treated very kindly by our host and hostess and had a tasty pork and stuffing bun for my tea. Regulars were very welcoming and there was a karaoke evening which did not disturb me as I was watching 'All Creatures Great and Small' on a large T V in my room. I will certainly stay again if I am in the area. Chris Walbank (Headingley, Leeds)

Great accommodation in a lovely friendly pub with a good choice of beverages at a reasonable price, the locals made us very welcome. Susan is a wonderful host who did everything to make our stay a pleasant one. Highly recommend. Perfect location for visiting Beamish which is superb.

What a beautiful, unique, historical inn with amazing tasting pints of a variety of lagers and ales with lovely, welcoming staff to match. Stayed one night on route to completing coast to coast cycle and this lovely place did not disappoint. Great atmosphere with locals and guests alike and Sue who has just recently returned to work there again after being away was an absolute superstar one of nicest human beings I’ve ever met. Will without doubt be back with friends this time after visiting local beamish museum for the day. Anyone looking for an authentic experience of an age gone by with a pint in hand and great atmosphere then this is the place. Believe me you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Sue and all the staff who made this one evening a very very unexpected enjoyable experience. Yous are a credit to the industry and a nod to better days that seem long ago in these times we find ourselves living in. See you again soon. Mark

What a find! This stunning place started out as a manor house in the 1600s (we asked!) and has retained its charm. We had a fabulous room/studio in what had been the old stable block. It was immaculately done out, spacious and comfortable. Comfy bed, lovely sitting room area, bathroom with toiletries, hospitality tray! Couldn't ask for more! Freshly cooked breakfast, veggie for me, full English for t'other 'alf, topped off a perfect stay. Such friendly hosts, too! We'll definitely be back!

A lovely stay. Stayed with friends as we were attending a wedding in the local area. Staff were very friendly, beautiful building, that’s been done up to a very high standard. We had the breakfast well worth getting, all lovely and fresh, cooked to perfection! Overall a great stay, we would all definitely return again.

Good point - room was cosy Bad points - bin liner being used as black out blind!! Condition of paintwork especially skirting Condition of walls Cold shower, went from chilly to baltic and back to chilly No soap/hand wash at sink Breakfast was greasy and tasteless and included tinned tomato No remote for TV so had to use torch to see the tiny buttons underneath to change channel/volume. None of this was anything like all the positive reviews I had seen before booking. Clearly none of thos positive reviews stayed in the room I was in!!
