Dated room but very comfortable, right in front of the bus stop of Yunomine, and unesco listed Tsuboyu onsen. Ryokan staff was very kind to lend me a set of towels for use in Tsuboyu before my check-in. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, don’t miss them.

Amazing service from the moment we arrived to the date of our departure. Staff is very attentive. Food is amazing and presented well. Location is serene and a great change from the big cities. Rooms are perfect and just the type of Japanese village rooms and decor we were hoping for.

It’s really a great accommodation experience. Although the environment is relatively old, the service and the comfort of the hot spring are amazing. Especially the breakfast and dinner are unforgettable.

This ryokan was very special and old-worldly. We adored our spacious room overlooking the village’s communal spring where we could watch everyone cook their Onsen eggs! The service was excellent, especially when I lost my mobile phone and the staff made calls and assisted me with being reunited with my phone! We were also very impressed with Deshira, our hostess who brought our meals and assisted with our room. She was delightful and very helpful. The meals, in our own room, were quite amazing - delicious, varied, surprising and so generous! And then there were the ryokan’s own spring baths. The private outdoor bath was very beautiful and the indoor bath was atmospheric with its blackened timber walls. The whole experience was very special and we would highly recommend this guest house for a 2 night stay.

It is the most expensive accommodation in this onsen town. The suite with private ofuro probably can fit 6! All the necessary amenities of a ryokan is available. Food is reasonable. Not exceptional but some expensive ingredients used (e.g. wagyu shabushabu and deer sashimi). If here for onsen I would probably stay at a lesser ryokan and try out all the onsens. Especially the public onsen which has been there forever!

Really surprised by the two recent poor reviews of this place. Perhaps room type makes a difference? But, for us, this was an incredible experience in every way possible. We stayed in the room called "Ichii", a Deluxe Room with its own ensuite outdoor hot spring bath (there are large public baths here as well, indoor and out). The meals were phenomenal. The first night's meal was a full, multi-course kaiseki with the most delicious, locally-raised Mi-kumano beef shabu-shabu I have EVER eaten (melts in your mouth like butter!). Bedding was traditional, very plush and comfy, on-the-floor futons. Breakfast was also traditional and very hearty. The outdoor public bath was lovely. The service provided by the employees could not have been better. We paid ¥290,400 or about $1.916 for four people, two nights or about $240 per person per night, breakfasts and dinners included. We felt it was WELL worth the price.

We stayed here for one night on our Kumano Kodo hike and it was the worst place we stayed. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food was good, however the building was horrible. The place smelled of mold and mildew. The hallways had big chunks of paint peeling off, there was visible mold on the walls, the carpet was coming up and was dirty. The onsen felt dirty and slimy. I would not recommend staying here until the place has been thoroughly cleaned and refurbished.

rather filthy place where i stayed at during my Kumano Kodo hike. they need urgently to replace carpets and uplift the place Price/value is not at all ok at that place - it was the most expensive accommodation i had during those 5 nights but it‘s not worth it. Btw: same goes for the food. was nothing special and as you eat in your room by yourself you can‘t even ask when you have questions.
