Wonderful hospitality at this ryokan. We wanted a traditional stay with futons (though I was hesitant because sleeping on essentially the floor is not my idea of a good time) but it really wasn’t terrible. Everyone we encountered who was working was so friendly and helpful. The first night we were offered a beer for our group and they put together our bed while we spent time in the onsen. The onsen was warm but relaxing, and upstairs from where our room was located. The difficult part for me as a person who really doesn’t want to sit on the floor was that we had no seat that wasn’t on the ground (I’m a big, tall girl and the ground is so far down). They had a lovely sitting room where we could be on couches in the common area. They had a variety of snacks they offered us to try and our second night, they were so nice to share with us what they were. The lines of communication were open courtesy of Google translate, so we could have conversations with each other despite not speaking the same language.

The important thing to say first: to this hotel, you must get off at H041, park at the entrance of the hotel, don't get off at Fudi Hot Spring Station, it's a bit far away! After getting off the bus, there is a promenade, and you can only see the lobby. If you have large luggage, you can go to the lobby first and let the service staff help you. At the end of the corridor there is a hot welcome rice wine, very delicious. The room is very good, breakfast and dinner are very good! The hot springs are first-class, the big baths are large, the private soup is actually indoor and outdoor at the same time, and you can take a bath without making an appointment. There are many hot springs out of the hotel and it is very good. There is no need to worry about the cold on snowy days. The hotel has prepared cotton coats and cotton rain shoes. It is recommended to go to bubbles. Special thanks to the service lady at the front desk of the hotel, it is really great! We went to the hotel too early and could check in at 3 pm. The service staff intimately told us to go to the foot soup outside the bubble first. Because the snow was cold, the waiter actually let us stay at 2 o'clock! So touched! The next day we were going to another hotel, but it was too early, we spent money to check out late, the waiter also enthusiastically drove us to that hotel, moved to tears! The name of the hotel is Tangyuan Long Block. I don't know how Trip.com translates it. I almost missed it! The first time I commented on a hotel in such a large space, it was mainly really good! In addition, I saw the messages shared by others before booking and helped us a lot. I would like to thank the friends who shared the messages and hope to help people in need.
Hidatakayama Futarishizuka Hakuun

I stayed for 2 nights for the Takayama matsuri, so prices were obviously not bargain rates. I wanted to experience a traditional ryokan, and the Futarishizuka definitely fits the bill - sleeping on a futon (surprisingly comfortable) on a tatami mat floor, sliding screen doors. The hotel is a little tired e.g. the fittings such as the washbasin/vanity unit in my room were definitely showing their age. The main tatami bedroom had a low (sittinng on the floor with backrest) Japanese chair and low table by the TV, and the smaller room with a little wardrobe and vanity unit also had a couple of Western chairs and table, and fine views over the city. There was a kettle, teapot (green tea but no hojicha, and a cookie), and TV in the room. My room also had a separate toilet (Japanese technotoilet) and a little bathroom with bathtub which I didn't use as I prefered the onsen experience. I was very glad of the quilted jacket provided along with the cotton yukata as it was a bit chilly my first evening and when I went down to breakfast the next morning. (More guests at breakfast were wearing the yukatas than every day clothes). I had breakfast at the ryokan but not dinner. The first day the breakfast was very Japanese (grilled fish, various vegetables, pickles, rice, miso, an egg (cold but not totally uncooked - the white was white) which I wasn't sure what to do with so mixed it in with my rice) plus some fruit. I'm not sure if the brown beans in goo was the infamous natto (the ”Marmite” divisive Japanese breakfast food item) as the flavour wasn't that strong. There is a coffee machine in the lobby as well as tea served with breakfast. The second day the breakfast was more fusion - one dish with simmering tofu in broth, another with more Western style ham, fried egg and a couple of bits of wiener type sausage, plus various random salady items, rice and tea. I didn't get to experience the outdoor onsen, only the indoor one. (They switch the red noren curtain (ladies) and blue one (men's) between the 2 changing room entrances, one for indoors and one for outdoors). The indoor onsen has 2 ”pot baths” which were a lovely temperature, and a square one (a bit hot for me). The hotel is up a bit of a steep hill, but they offer a shuttle minibus service to and from the station for guests. I'd recommending bringing a sleep eye mask (the one from your airplane amenity kit) as it got quite light quite early (no modern heavy blackout curtains in the room). Don't expect a modern designer boutique hotel, but enjoy a taste of traditional Japanese hospitality.
Tokyu Stay Hida Takayama Musubinoyu

A new hotel just built in front of Takayama station. It is a stay type hotel, but artists are decorated everywhere and fashionable. This time, Superior twin. The room itself is not particularly characteristic, but there is a sofa on the window side and it can be relaxed. This sofa is a bed, so you can stay for three people. Electric pots, empty refrigerators, washing dryers, microwave ovens, etc. are also complete. Recommended for long stay. The bathroom is small in the unit. Especially the toilet is small. There is a comfortable public bath, so I wanted to relax the toilet part only by shower. Amenities are only toothbrushes, and amenities are available on the first floor. Shaving, brush, tea bags such as tea and green tea, cosmetics, cotton swabs, cotton, etc. The public bath is also fashionable with designer specifications. There is also an open-air bath. You can enjoy two different design hot springs in the men and women replacement system. The atmosphere is like a public bath in a luxury inn. It doesn't seem to be in front of the station. There are also view lounges and foot baths on the top floor. Convenient location and recommended for sightseeing and business. The staff has a level difference depending on the person. Because it is a new hotel, is it possible?

A very traditional Japanese-style B&B in the Okuhida Onsen Nakao area. The location is closer to Shin-Hotaka. It is less crowded and quiet. The owner and his wife are very friendly and can communicate in simple English. They are very proactive in picking up and dropping off at the station. There are 4 indoor soups and 2 outdoor ones, and the toiletries are very complete. You need to walk a short distance outside, wear a hat, soak in the warm soup with a slight sulfur smell in the forest filled with wind and snow, and chat with your loved ones, it is extremely comfortable! It was quite warm inside the house, said to be heated by hot springs. It was a little dry but overall felt very comfortable. Although the facilities are a bit old, they are neatly arranged and clean. The soft warm light, soft background music, and the details of the display cabinet layout make people feel warm and relaxed. We tasted breakfast and dinner, which were very local and quite satisfactory! There are no businesses around. If you want to stay and have a drink after bathing in the soup in the evening, it is recommended to bring your own drinks and snacks. I like the surrounding environment and living atmosphere, and will come again!
