Fukuji Onsen is a wonderful peaceful location - especially after hitting the tourist trap that Kamikochi has become. Ryokan Sansui reflects the location with comfortable rooms, a good onsen (thought we couldn't work out the private rotenburo) and great food. And the village footbath across the road is fantastic!

It was stated after 8pm we could not check in - We arrived to Sansui around 7:30pm and were terrified no one would be there to attend us. The opposite. Upon our arrival they greeted us with big smiles on their faces, took our luggage up to the room, and even offered us green tea before heading to bed. The staff here are some of the most precious we have come across on our trip. This place is not the most modern but you feel very homey and welcomed. We found everything to be clean, only thing is you have to remember it’s in the middle of the mountains so there are bugs around. The outside public hot spring was marvelous!!!! For our fortune we came on August 6th and 7th and there happened to be a dragon festival happening right around the corner. The man who greeted us upon arrival was also at the festival and helped us get drinks to be put on our room tab because we went with out cash. Breakfast is included, a little different from American breakfast but it adds to the experience. We asked for dinner our second night, everything was so beautiful and the food just kept coming, if you are not accustomed to authentic Japanese cuisine I don’t quite recommend the dinner… it is a lovely experience if you want to try something new and different. We are absolutely amazed with the service and look forward to coming back with more family! I recommend Ryokan Sansui 100%!
