Lovely clean, quiet, comfortable motel. Friendly reception from owner. Everything we needed was provided including toiletries. Great location so near the supermarket and cafes. Just loved the relaxing, rural outlook with view of the hills. Would definitely recommend Mohua Motels for your stay in Takaka.

This visit was my first time to Takaka, and I was pleased to stay at the Mohua Motel. Everything appeared new and clean, and the view over the paddock toward the hills was relaxing. I stepped outside to find a pair of cows quietly grazing over the fence, barely two metres from my balcony. The rooms were an adequate size with a good bathroom and shower. The heat pump was very effective at cooling and heating. The "Roots Bar" is popular with the locals and is only a three-minute walk from Mohua Motel. The owner is super friendly and helpful. Mohua is excellent value, and I recommend it to all travellers.

I stayed in the beautiful spa suite as all the studio rooms were booked out which the owner kindly gave to me for a discounted price. The bed was so comfortable, the balcony faced the mountains beside rural fields and the service was outstanding. I fully recommend treating yourself to the luxury of staying at this super clean and comfortable place.

We had a warm welcome from the new owners during the recent Takaka floods. They were very kind & caring to all the guests during difficult & stressful circumstances. When the power went out they brought candles & inquired to everyone if they had food. Their thoughtfulness was reassuring. The bed was very comfortable & our unit spotless. We were high and dry even when the storm was raging. The motel is in an excellent location & close to supermarket & cafes. Wonderful hosts.

We stayed in Golden Bay to visit family last week and feel so fortunate to have booked at the Mohua Motel. It’s perfectly located on the edge of Takaka town with an easy walk to shops, restaurants, galleries, and museum. Our room was spacious and well appointed , and exceptionally clean. This is an owner operated motel. The owners are on site and are lovely, friendly and helpful.

Our accommodation and hosts were exceptional. We’ve stayed in numerous motels over the years, around the world and this was right up there. Our hosts were delightful, helpful and accomodating and we couldn’t have wished for more. Our room was spacious, extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. All within short walking distance to Main Street. Do yourself a favour book here when next in Takaka.
