The hotel facilities are very elegant and the rooms are clean. Since we have two babies, the hotel provides bottle detergents, brushes, bathtubs and sterilizers. We also prepare two beds for the babies to sleep separately. We can also have dinner in the room for our two babies. It feels very thoughtful that Mom can have a chance to eat.

As soon as the car turned into the hotel, there was a bamboo forest. It had a very casual and comfortable feeling. The service of the hotel staff was really attentive. The landscaping in the flower garden was even better. Insects and birds were singing, butterflies and dragonflies were flying. The whole family loved this trip and accommodation experience.

It is a hotel where you can completely relax. The overall indoor and outdoor settings are great. Unfortunately, there is a lot of room for improvement in the dining area!

Thoughts on staying at Hoshinoya Hotel "Hoshinoya": The overall planning and design is very high-end~ The design style is unique and it is a great place for vacation and leisure! Only shortcomings: 1. There is no TV or computer (so guests have no right to choose). 2. The projection lights on the ceiling of the room (suitable for commercial spaces) are too glaring - especially when lying down, they will directly or indirectly shine into the eyes, which is very uncomfortable! 3. Room supplies - drinking water ➡️Yue's mineral water is a very middle-to-lower brand in Taiwan, and it really doesn't deserve such a high-end hotel! 4. Ordering meals from the guest room: The hot pot is cooked using Taiwan's "Datong" induction cooker. This brand is also a mid-to-lower level brand in Taiwan's electrical appliances market, and it doesn't match the style of this hotel at all! 5. The water in the hot spring pool flows 24 hours a day, which is really wasteful and not environmentally friendly... I felt very sad when I saw it! 6. The hotel's bathroom has insufficient water pressure; taking a shower is not comfortable at all! Therefore, I often take off the shower head to take a shower. However, because the shower head is very heavy, my hands will become very sore after holding it for a while... This is really torture rather than enjoyment! One final point: It was close to 12 o'clock at noon on 8/12. My husband and I were walking in the courtyard, and my wife was stung by a hornet~ Then very painful, swollen and uneasy… Then I went to the restaurant and asked the service staff for help. After the two service staff disinfected and applied ointment, the swelling and pain gradually subsided! One day after the incident, I could not see any manager from the hotel caring about the incident or expressing condolences... Does such a high-end hotel treat guests like this? Very disappointing!

This is arguably the very best one could hope for in an onsen hotel, or in any hotel. Hoshinoya Guguan is not just a gem, it is a ruby with diamond studs. Located about 90 minutes from Taichung Airport, this hotel is in the hotspring district of Guguan. At the very end of a narrow winding road, the other hotels en route pale into insignificance. The security at the gate checks for booking confirmation and allows only registered clients to set foot in the compound. Minimalistic Japanese design features are instilled into every aspect of the hotel. From the hotel entrance to the washrooms, from the carparking facility to the gardens, from the outdoor swimming pool to the onsen, one could not help but notice the details that sit quietly behind everything here. The guest room is also beyond words, not just the size but the scenery, the cleanliness and everything inside has been thoroughly considered and supplied, nothing more nothing less. It would be unfair not to mention the restaurant - its decor and food and of course, the staff - exquisite and memorable!

Carlton treated us like gold from when we first arrived until the end 4 days later. The hotel is beautiful and rooms are so spacious. We had the 2 story with private Onsen facing the mountains. The food was so good, we almost stayed another day! Breakfast, lunch and dinner was delicious and felt like a gourmet meal each time. (If you like Japanese food) We did a couples massage and had a nice room. During my massage, I asked for harder pressure. It was still very light and I felt like she was new and just needed more training. When we were done we were asked how we like the massage? I gave my honest feedback and they apologized and said she was new and would go back to training. They scheduled another session for me immediately the next day complimentary. The next day was perfect and I tried to give Chole a tip but she refused it and she just wanted everything to be perfect for us. On our Anniversary, Carlton prepared a surprise for us. After dinner we went out to the back and they took some photos. Also they had prepared a wonderful fruit, drink and cake platter for us in one of their pavilion cabanas. They made our night extra special. Upon checking out, they gave us a Hoshinoya photo memory frame for our Anniversary. Thank you to all the staff, the Head Chef and assistants to making our stay one of the best and most memorable experiences in our lives. This is my wife’s 2nd visit and my first and we will definitely return. Craig & Caroline Tsutakawa Rocklin CA When we were checking out

Hoshinoya Guguan is "heaven on earth". The rooms are exceptionally designed; 2 levels with the private onsen at the lower level. Our room had a mountain view, and the entire environment is so relaxing with the views of the mountain and the peace and quiet of the property. The food and meals are exquisite; their Executive Chef Hitoshi Kagawa is truly talented. Every meal - even the breakfasts, are both delicious and visually beautiful! All the staff are amazingly friendly and helpful, and spoke English well. We participated in the guided tour of Guguan, which was highly informative, as well as the garden tour, which was equally impressive with the thoughtful design of the streams and flora. Would highly recommend Hoshinoya Guguan - this was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Taiwan!

I spent two nights at Hoshinoya Guguan in a Feng room. The hotel was accommodating, converting the beds from three singles to a king and a single for us. Regrettably, despite its stunning location in the mountains, the resort doesn’t justify its high rates. I’ve visited other hot springs resorts, and, unfortunately, Hoshinoya Guguan doesn’t measure up. Additionally, there’s ongoing construction nearby, which is incredibly loud. The noise from the banging and machines disrupted the peaceful setting, forcing us to stay indoors rather than enjoying the outdoors. For those interested in the onsen, it’s worth noting that the public hot spring is open only from 6-10 a.m. and 4-10 p.m. It closes for cleaning daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., which seems impractical. Ideally, cleaning would occur overnight to not disrupt daytime use. The dining options are quite limited. Dinner at the restaurant was underwhelming with bland food, and the courses arrived too quickly, making us feel rushed. Breakfast is available from 7-9:30 a.m. and lunch from 12-2 p.m., offering narrow time frames for meals and very limited menu options. Missing the breakfast window means waiting until noon to eat. We were glad that we opted out of the meal plan. Our room spanned two floors, with the convenience of having the toilet on the same level as the bed. This is helpful for nighttime visits, though I was surprised that a room at this price point didn’t have a toilet on both floors. An automatic light and toilet seat are thoughtful touches, but the brightness of the light at 3 a.m. can be jarring. Adjustable lighting would be an improvement. The beds were comfortable, but the room lacked effective blackout blinds, letting in early morning sunlight. Additionally, an illuminated exit sign and a bright red ceiling light contributed to a less-than-dark sleeping environment. The resort provides pajamas and lounge wear, but the quality is disappointing. Our set had missing buttons and ties, and replacements were similarly damaged. A ‘mini-bar’ with complimentary beer, Coca-Cola, Sprite, coffee, and tea is included. However, given the cost of the stay, these offerings seem basic. Complimentary snacks or fruit would enhance the value. The staff at Hoshinoya Guguan is exceptional—friendly and helpful. Yet, the facilities, dining, and overall value fall short. In summary, the experience doesn’t live up to the price. Significant improvements are necessary to justify the cost.

3 hours + drive from Taipei. Kinda expect more from Hoshinoya. The room is extra spacious with 2nd floor for the bathroom and private onsen pool. The place is relaxing, yet private which I like. The happy hour for ice cream is nice. Got some 30 min to 1 hour activities to do during the day but it's nothing much. Nothing else to do in the hotel. No gym, no sport activities, no nothing. Just onsen so better come here when the weather is quite cold (really not recommended during summer). Food options are low. If you want to dine in the room you only have one option - shabu set, which makes your room full of smoke and food smell when they actually have a la carte food menu at their only restaurant. Some of the staffs cannot communicate in English that well and they're very punctual about the housekeeping time. Like 1 minute late from the housekeeping appointment (which you have to tell them in advance) then they'll ring you. Definitely not worth the money. average service and facilities overall.

I stayed at Room 205 where the view was disappointing. The grass outside my window wall was dying and desperately needed landscaping. Thinking about the price I paid and looking at the grass pissed me off!! Inside wasn’t much better - bulged and stained carpet created an unpleasant atmosphere. If you stay in Room 205 you also get the pleasure of looking at the driveway and see all the cars coming in the hotel. This hotel is totally overrated! Try to book the highest floor you can get…good luck to all!

I am at loss for words. This place is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. It has everything you could wish for and more. They have an amazing inside and outside onsen, 24 hour ice cream, and everything is beautiful. There are lots of fun activities to do such as forest in a bottle where you make a miniature plant display. This place is the best.

We had a very thorough check in service, where they explain everything about the place, your room and onsen etc. I would have given 5 stars, however, the food options were just a too limited for us, and there was no restaurant availability for our first night which was really disappointing so we had to make do with the in room dining options. Also, it would have been nice to know they were able to do breakfast a la carte (which was really nice of them to do this for us in the end, but we didn't know up front) - sometimes you don't want such a lot of food in the morning. Also the surrounding area is quite built up, so although the hotel is beautiful, you can see a lot of other buildings (from our room at least).

Stayed two nights in this secluded resort, which was the reason we stopped at Guguan, and it did not disappoint. We arrived after the normal check-in time and were led to our maisonette by a staff, who showed us the facilities on the way. The staff went on to show us the amenities of our maisonette and prepared tea for us. The first floor of our maisonette was divided into different zones for luggage, toilet, dining, relaxing and sleeping. The zen / minimalistic design gave off relaxing vibes and one felt that one could curl up on the day bed with a book and look out of the floor-to-ceiling windows all day long. The second floor consisted of an open-plan bathroom with two wash basins, a shower and an outdoor onsen. It worked for couples and families with young kids but could be problematic for people who wanted more privacy. The onsen was nice but it did take time to adjust the temperature. The two floors were connected by a staircase with no railings and might prove to be dangerous for young kids. Our three-year-old loved running up and down the stairs, which meant we had to run after him too. It served to make us exercise after our sumptuous meals. We had a dinner reservation in the restaurant on our first night. My husband and I had the excellent Kaiseki course and our child had the kid’s meal, the portion of which was huge and would have been enough for an adult. It would be great if they could offer something smaller for young kids. Service at the table was exceptional and I appreciated that they double-checked with me my allergies. We had hotpot for dinner in our room on our second night. Food was delicious and quite good value for money. I was at first worried that the smell of the food would linger in the room but it turned out alright thanks to the excellent ventilation. It would probably be better, however, if we had booked dinner earlier. The only available time slot when we booked (on the day after breakfast) was 8:00 p.m. For breakfast, one could choose from three options – *********, Japanese and Western. My husband and I chose ********* and Japanese on both days. The portions were big and the food was tasty. But I wish they would refill our fruit juices. I was only given half a glass of apple juice on my first day. At the price they charged, one would expect to get free flow of juice. The landscaped garden was enchanting. We enjoyed the guided tour of the garden in the morning and stretching exercise under the stars in the evening. The swimming pool was masterfully designed to form part of the garden and our child had fun playing with the other kids. Free bottled drinks and float tubes were offered at the pavilion but the ice cream was not free. While we could get free ice lollies, tea jellies and drinks served in the lounge area, I felt that they could be more generous and give us free ice cream too. The outdoor bath hall was beautiful. One felt surrounded by nature when having a soak there. We only went there once tho
