Hotel Ploes is a beautiful hotel. It is a renovated mansion, within just a couple of blocks from city center (i.e. less than 5 minute walk) but beautifully situated right on the water. I arrived late at night after the late ferry from Athens and was greeted at the entrance with a welcome drink and candies. The lobby area is magnificent. My room faced the water and had a spa (jacuzzi and sauna) within the room; it was a suite with a living room and a loft bedroom. The living room windows looked out over the water. Very, very luxurious. Breakfast was served in their cafe terrace, it was absolutely delicious. The weather was lovely but very windy, which prohibited swimming from the swimming deck - my goal is to go back when the water is calmer. Service was extraordinary in every way. I highly recommend the hotel and I highly recommend visiting the island of Syros.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Syros and the Diogenis Hotel was a wonderful location - literally across the street from the ferry port. Hermoupolis is a thriving town, that doesn't appear to have been discovered by Americans yet. Many good restaurant and beach options. Strongly recommend driving around the island to check out the beach towns - easily done in a day. The staff were so helpful and friendly, directing us to good restaurants and rental car services. A few suggestions - request a room with a view of the port on the 2nd floor or higher. Much better views on the upper floors. And even with the wonderful views, plan on closing the windows at night due to the noise from the port. Good news - the windows cancel out the noise and the rooms are air conditioned. Also we found the breakfast to be sub-par - would have preferred a larger selection of pastries (though the breakfast cakes were delicious), fresh juice (vs. watery bottled stuff), and better coffee. The bathrooms are small, more European size - but more than adequate. In summary, we would stay at the Diogenis again in a heartbeat because of the location and the quality service.

This is a well-priced hotel right at the port - as a matter of fact, we walked off the ferry, took a left and saw the hotel - it is minutes from the ferry (and we were thankful). We were greeted, got our room, they carried our bags, and we opened our window to the port and sea...Nice! I really like the entrance of the hotel which is set with tables, a bar, breakfast - it is a nice look and feel. The rooms are nice, the beds comfortable, the breakfast terrific, and everything in walking distance. We rented a car right next door and that made exploring easy. Syros has some nice shops, restaurants and we were close to all of that. You do walk the stairs as there is no lift, but that wasn't a problem - that's Greece! You do a lot of walking and climbing - all good! The hosts are all welcoming and helpful. They check the schedules, make good recommendations and are helpful. This is a good spot in Syros!
