Stayed for two nights in Room 2 which was warm and cosy with a log fire and hot water bottles. Lovely welcome with tea and scones. Food was spectacular with dinner on our first night (risotto heavenly) and breakfasts to die for including a stellar soufflé omelette. Hazelnut Espresso Martini at dinner was spectacular. The owner Alison was on site and it was obvious from our chats with her that she loved her country house and was very welcoming. The pictures of the property attracted us to book in the first place and we were not disappointed. Swellendam is a nice quiet town to visit.

Just stayed 1 night at this truly wonderful country house, I cannot praise this establish highly enough as they made my wife and myself so welcome, the rooms are so cosy and the log fire and hot water bottles were a real bonus. The breakfast was amazing. I just wished we had eaten in the restaurant the previous night. We will definitely return

After 8 days on safari in Botswana, we transitioned to South Africa and spent our first evening at Schoone. Our stay was absolutely wonderful. We encountered a few travel delays throughout the day and didn't arrive until late. Schoone kept the chef on site to cook us a very late dinner, the food was wonderful. The rooms were incredibly comfortable... a lovely room with wonderful bed, it was a chilly evening and our room had a wood burning stove in it which made it quite lovely. Breakfast in the morning was a feast. The staff and owner were very hospitable; a brief, but lovely stay. We'll be back.

Such a special place this. A beautifully restored Country House. As soon as we arrived it felt like home, and it got better. We loved the furniture, tasteful decoration and vibe. It’s got the most stunning garden room where you go for breakfast and dinner. The food was absolutely superb top quality and served in a unique way. If staying it’s a must to eat here. The guest rooms are lovely, comfortable with large bathrooms and a great shower, bath as well if you prefer. Joanie the manageress was just fantastic. it was also lovely to meet Alison the owner and chat about the renovation and rescue of this beautiful building. Cool as …. 2 nights next time we promise! What can we say other than fabulous stay. The room was amazing as were the staff. Dinner…one of the best meals ever (no exaggeration). If planning a stay in Swellendam do yourself a favour and stay here. You won’t regret it if only because of the unexpected hot water bottles at turndown and the car being washed before we left!!

We had a lovely stay during our honeymoon. The hotel is gorgeous and staff faultless! The small touches are what really made this hotel 5 star, from the hot water bottle put under the duvet during the turndown service to the complimentary car clean during breakfast. You don’t know what luxury is until you have stayed at Schoone Oortt. Thank you Alison and the team!

Absolutely stunning guest house. Really lovely rooms. Afternoon tea on arrival was perfect. Staff and hosts utterly charming. Couldn’t do enough for us. The story books of the history of the house were great and very interesting. Dinner in the conservatory was delicious and enjoyed by all four of us who each had a different dish. A 3 course breakfast the next morning was just as good. Would highly recommend!

What a beautiful boutique guesthouse! The family and staff go above and beyond to make sure your stay is perfect. Wonderful food and fantastic service - couldn’t fault it. It was cold while we were there - so a fire in the bedroom was lit and hot water bottles put in our beds to our surprise On departure - they had even washed our car!!

Our friends and we spent two nights here. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are big. The bathrooms do require some TLC, however the owners and the staff still make it a five star property! Best part was the complimentary car wash. Much appreciated! We met the owner Alison Walker. She and the staff go out of their way to accommodate their guests' needs. We were there in Winter so the place was nearly empty one night. They smartly reduced their staff that night but it did make for a very slow dinner. The location is fabulous. We walked multiple times to the downtown for meals and to shop in the boutique shops. The rooms were very well serviced with thoughtful turndown service. Suggestion: given the inexpensive mini-bar in the rooms, consider making it complimentary. It will be a nice wow factor. The complimentary tea, cookies etc. hit the spot. Another suggestion is to improve the quality of the scotch whisky in the main bar, just a wee bit!
