Boars Head Boutique Hotel

The rooms were clean here, and had everything we needed for a basic one night stay, but got very hot so we opened the windows, and had seagulls making noise very early in the morning and constantly. Old building so expect steep staircase and uneven flooring and noisy bathrooms. There is free parking in a non-tarmac carpark next to the hotel but not very secure, although my car was fine apart from having a lot of seagull poo on! The area where the hotel is not very nice to be walking around, but it isn't too far for avid walkers to get into town, or over the bridge to the stadium. If you're not a walker - stay somewhere else or be prepared to pay for taxis everywhere. We didn't use the shared kitchen but there was plenty in there including a fridge, bread, cereals, milk, butter etc for people to help themselves. Owner was friendly and welcoming, but I am not sure we would stop here again. Was very cheap for an overnight stay so we got value for money in that way. Mixed, but it was ok for a night.

A lovely small B&B with a lovely host, Diana. Received a friendly welcome and a little chat. Was shown around and advised the Italian restaurant downstairs was very nice. It certainly looked it for all we didn’t dine. There are some steep steps up to the rooms, be aware if you have mobility issues. Our beds were comfortable and very clean and overall the rooms were great, except for the inch thick dust on the back of the TV. No word of a lie. Hence the 4* instead of 5. Easily missed place, but very visible where it was placed and was not just a few days or even a weeks worth of others’ dead skin. Please address this. There is a nice shared kitchen area which leads onto the balcony/terrace which has amazing views on offer, especially on a sunny day. Kitchen has cereal and toast on offer and a cuppa too, which I found a nice little touch. There is a washing machine in the kitchen, which I assume can be used by guests? Were not told we could, but I would say it’s likely you can. Also a large steam iron in the kitchen, again, maybe for guests to use should they wish? I would definitely stay here again. If you're looking for a comfortable quirky little stay this is the place to go. It's not a 5 star place it's quirky and unique . You get treated well, it's clean, comfortable and quiet. We had a cute little room with view of the river. The host was so inviting and friendly. Highly recommend if u are in Sunderland and only a 20 minute walk from centre.

Was greeted on arrival by Mrs Kenny, lovey lady, I must say, very welcoming and friendly and absolutely nothing was a bother to her, she walked us around the hotel, which was very nice indeed and overlooked the river wear, great views from our room too. The room Itself was a good size, very clean and comfortable and bright airey. The cleaner was also very friendly indeed, great experience overall, highly recommend a stay to all.

Lovely room with 3 beds and a lounge area as well, separate communal kitchen with free breakfast ( cereals toast jam etc) diana our host was a lovely lady and made us very welcome explaining history of hotel and area, would recommend it and definitely stop here again, ps Italian restaurant on ground floor Sadly didn’t have time to use it

The absolutely beautiful hotel felt like home from home ! View from the small window felt like we were on a cruise. Diane went out of her way for us and I will definitely return !! We went for business but I would recommend it for business and pleasure. The attached restaurant was delicious and the staff were so friendly

The room and customer service was wonderful. The owner was very helpful, came to receive us. The room was very clean. The location was great. The free breakfast was a very kind gesture. The facility overlooks the river which is great

We stayed in this Hotel for one night while visiting relatives in Sunderland. The Host Diana was really helpful and friendly, she greeted us on arrival and showed us to our room. We paid £50 for our room on a Saturday evening. The rooms itself was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The en suite was lovely but the shower was very small and the door didn’t quite shut properly. The Hotel is set above an Italian restaurant. We didn’t eat here but we did have a drink on the lovely terrace at the back of the Hotel overlooking the docks. This is a lovely are to relax and have a drink. In the morning you can use the kitchen to make your breakfast (toast, cereals and porridge) at no extra charge. This was great. Overall we are very happy with the value of this hotel and will be staying here for future visits to Sunderland. The hotel also offers free parking and just a 10 minute walk to the city centre.

Dianne was such a lovely lady. Ideally located for the stadium of light. Worth paying over the odds for location and parking, prices were inflated as p!nk was playing but it was worth not having to wait for taxis or battle with traffic on the way home.
