Our experience at Hotel Italie et Suisse was, unfortunately, underwhelming and soured by poor hospitality. While the location is convenient, that’s where the positives end. From the start, the desk attendant Samuel seemed bothered by our arrival, offering little warmth or welcome. The real issue, however, arose later that night when we learned of a strict LOCKDOWN period from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. (no one goes in or out) —a policy that was not visible during booking or clarified at check-in. Later that night when we expressed concern, especially as we were in town to reconnect with friends we hadn't seen in years, Samuel became increasingly curt and dismissive. He even suggested we find another hotel if we didn’t like the rule—an impossible solution given the hour. The following morning, he took the situation a step further by privately warning my roommate that we could be blacklisted in all of Europe—a wildly disproportionate and frankly unsettling reaction, given that we remained calm yet concerned throughout the interaction. Mind you, no other hotels in the area have this policy as we confirmed with other family members the next day, which brings the legality of it into question. Other guests’ reviews echo similar frustrations: indifferent service, outdated rooms, and a general lack of hospitality. Sadly, our visit confirmed all of the above. I cannot recommend this hotel, particularly if you value flexibility, friendliness, or basic transparency.

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel in Stresa. Great location, only metres from the centre and the waterfront. Parking is opposite the hotel, buy your overnight parking ticket from reception daily and place on the windscreen of your car. 10 euros daily. Family run hotel. Great breakfasts, served in the dining room at the front of the hotel. So its great to see the activity locally as you eat in the sunshine. We had a room at the rear of the hotel, could do with a refurbishment, but spacious and met our needs.

There are a number of positive and not-so-positive things about this hotel. Location: On the lake, opposite the ferry station, lots of eating places and other shops around. This hotel has two buildings joined by a bridge on first floor. Our room was on the back building. Third floor. No elevator. Steep stairs. From the balcony you see only a slice of the lake. Room was spacious with a big dresser, chairs etc. Bed comfortable, bathroom private and large. No fridge in room. I asked for an electric kettle and two cups to make tea in room. They do not supply them automatically. Breakfast is ordinary, but fulfilling. Everyday the same items, though. No variety. The place is family-run. Between 1 and 7 am the desk is closed. If you plan to arrive between that time, you may have to make arrangements. Overall it was a mixed experience for us.

Stayed here for 2 nights in May. As previous reviews have stated it’s a very dated hotel, we found our room to be clean although the shower head would not stay on the wall so showering was difficult and I didn’t like the old scratchy blankets that were used on the beds. The continental breakfast was basic but plentiful. We seemed to have a room in the back building of the hotel which no pictures show so you had to go in the lift ( or up a flight of stairs) then along a walkway into the other building and then climb concrete flights of stairs as there is no lift. Not ideal if you have mobility issues. No views or balcony from the rooms at all and very very noisy at night as the restaurants empty their bottles into bins around 1am! Staff pleasant and aim to please. Despite giving 3 stars I would use again as it was a basic no frills hotel at a good price and we were not in the room a lot but if you want modern then this isn’t the place for you.

Lovely hotel with a Fantastic location. Beautiful views from balcony. Although dated decor the rooms were very Comfortable & clean with fluffy towels and lovely sheets. Perfect base for a trip to the lakes. More like a B&B than hotel as No bar or restaurant but so many all around.

Do. Not. Go. Here. Booked this hotel thinking it was a simple clean hotel with a nice view of the lake. - It REAKS of perfume everywhere. I have no idea why, but it gave us both a headache. - Rooms are extremely cramped. We could only open one suitcase at a time.. - The bed is covered with a disgusting old blanket. There were hairs in the bed. - The service. The staff does not seem to care about you, or show any interest in how to make your stay pleasant. - There is a balcony (we payed extra to get one), but is is tiny and is furnished with a couple of dirty old plastic chairs. Again, do not go here. I mean, just take a look at the picture of the computer from the eighties. Nothing else has changed either. (I forgot, the breakfast is also terrible..)

This hotel is not a good place to stay if you want freedom on your holiday. I like to start my day early for a jog or walk at 5am with the sunrise. However, when I did try to leave the hotel the front was locked. I asked the manager why it was locked. His response was: The front door is locked till 7am and you cannot leave before. If I do want to leave, I could ring the bell and wait for someone to open the door. However, I wouldn't be allowed back in till 7am". I asked for a key, but he said they only have 1 key. Absolutely ridiculous. This was more like a prison than a hotel. Plus the door closes at 1am, so if you want to stay out late you can't get back in. I was very, very restricted and quite annoyed at the attitude of the manager. It dampened my stay there. I was also disappointed with the room. When booking this hotel, all the photos of the double room are advertised showing lake view. It was very deceiving. The balcony backed onto another hotel of which you could see into their rooms. The lake view was at the corner of my eye. Nothing like the photo. The room was tired and plain. No fridge, which when staying somewhere hot is important. If you want a quiet stay, this hotel is NOT the place. It is on the main road and in the town. But I knew this would be the case, so I wasn't surprised by this. The breakfast is not great. No eggs, no tomatoes, no cucumber, no cut bread or toast. The best thing was the power shower.

This hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Stresa and ideal for visiting the lake as the boat dock is just across the road. Clean and comfortable with a lovely breakfast and very pleasant hosts.
