The Avonlea Inn

The location of this property is great. It is easy to explore Stratford and access the theatres within walking distance. We missed the part about the Inn not having a reception but this isn't a huge concern for us since we use self-catered apartments often. We received the check in details the day of arrival. They did agree to allow us to check in an hour prior so that was nice. There is no parking onsite but down the road is an outdoor public parking lot that is free. The initial impression is not good. Once you enter the front door there is immediately a steep set of stairs leading to the second floor. The stairwell is very dirty. Both the walls and the carpet. Not sure why this is left like this. It is an easy fix. Our room was #1 - a good size with a bed, kitchenette, table and small seating area. There is lots of light from the front windows. The bedding was comfortable. The bathroom had good amenities but not clean. The fridge was also dirty. In fact not much of the room looked very clean. There was alot of noise first from a neighbouring bar with loud music and then from above. The person upstairs was up between 3:00am-4:30am and thumping around which made it impossible to sleep. It was advertised as having a kitchen with supplies, but there was only one bowl (tough when there were two of us). Our stay was fine, but we wouldn't book here again given the apparent lack of concern from the owner.

What a great stay! The room was so clean and we loved the added touches with the coffee maker and toiletries etc. We will definitely stay again.

First off the owner of the property treats each guest like a criminal. I get there is no Front Desk at the Property but when the Code from the Front Door was not provided at the 48 hr. point, repeated efforts to obtain the Code were ignored. However, after a half dozen attempts the Code was begrudgingly provided. But the Wi-Fi Code was held hostage for no particular reason. Now the Entry Way is up a steep flight of stairs, carpets filthy and the railing loose at points. The carpets in the unit filthy beyond belief. Unit dusty throughout. The bathroom is the only saving grace. Spotless with premium amenities. Simply put. Don't stay here!

We stayed at the Avonlea Inn for a Stratford Festival weekend. The room was clean and spacious, and the location was great (about 5 minutes from the Avon Theatre and 5 minutes from the 24-hour Cooper Lot). Check in was easy and convenient.

Had to hand carry luggage up 20 steep steps to room facing a noisy street with bright streetlights shining in and no blinds to block out the light. No one on site to help. A call the first night to ask for blinds to be pulled down was not answered. Second call next day was answered and resulted in the pull down of high blinds in 2 of 3 windows. Told a work order would be submitted to install blinds in 3rd window but wouldnt be fixed during our stay. This is not an inn but more a makeshift airbnb with just a couple of rooms.
