Just returned from a 4-night stay at Majeka House in Stellenbosch. While the property has potential and some bright spots, several issues prevented this from being the luxury experience we expected. Location: Somewhat Isolated Majeka House is located in a residential area of Stellenbosch, which has pros and cons: Pros: - Quiet neighborhood setting - Safe area with gated access Cons: 10-minute drive to Stellenbosch town center Not walkable to restaurants or attractions Limited views compared to other wine country properties Taxi/Uber required for dinner outings Rooms: Inconsistent Quality We stayed in a Premier Collection Room, which was spacious but showed signs of wear: - Comfortable king-sized bed - Large bathroom with separate tub - Decent-sized private terrace - Dated furnishings in need of updating - Several maintenance issues (slow draining shower, loose fixtures) - Air conditioning struggled to maintain consistent temperature - Limited storage space - Weak WiFi signal in room Staff: Variable Service Service levels fluctuated significantly during our stay ranging from very friendly to somewhat not bothered. Since we weren't staying for too long we ignored the unprofessional behaviour, but took note for our review. At Breakfast and Dinner there were very long waits for service, and housekeeping was inconsistent (missed turndown service twice). Concierge seemed to have limited knowledge about local attractions so had to use google and one thing that really stuck out was that it was sometimes difficult to find staff when needed. Dining: Hit and Miss The dining experience at Majeka House was varied, points that I noted include: - A Good wine list with local options (hey, we're in the wine zone so this should be a no brainer!) - A decent breakfast selection However, this did not come with shortcomings from the dinner menu which we found go be quite limited and overpriced for the quality. During Peak times the service seemed to grind to a halt or slow at best and breakfast items were not often replenished promptly. Though I'm not a vegetarian, I noticed that there were limited options for vegetarians. Facilities: Adequate But Underwhelming The location has a range of facilities to cater to your needs. These include: - Nice spa facility with good treatments - Pleasant pool area - Small but functional gym Again, there are areas that are in need of improvement which include: - Monitoring of pool temperature - Pool temperature was too cold for comfort for us during our stay. - Limited outdoor seating areas - Spa often fully booked - Garden areas need better maintenance Things to Do: The location provides access to various activities which include: - visiting the many wine estates in Stellenbosch - Easy access to Stellenbosch town (Uber is your friend) - Access to hiking trails Things to take note of when visiting this location in terms of getting around is that you'll need to get a taxi to get anywhere, there ar
