Protea Hotel Stellenbosch and Conference Centre

Quite and comfortable hotel with parking, several restaurants and a winery near it. Swimming pool is rather small (it is only one minor minus of this hotel), breakfast is varied, coffee is tasty. You need a car to go somewhere because we didn-t see any public transport there. But in SA it is a normal practice to explore Cape Town by car.

My wife and I were on an overseas trip recently and as part of our booking with a leading airline, we were given a complimentary stay at a 5 star hotel. We couldn't help comparing their facilities, staff ... and breakfast! ... with what we've been accustomed to at PH Stellenbosch. And we want to say ... PH Stellebosch came out tops. Protea Hotels, generally, and PH Stelllenbsch, in particular, have managed to maintain exceptionally high standards over many years. They can be justly proud.

On arrival late evening, I discovered that effectively no water was available in my room. The little water I got, was scalding hot from the geyser and the toilet flusher did not even work! Having reported this to reception, an alternative room was not provided, nor any solution offered as the maintainance team had left. They found out the next morning, that the water supply had been turned off to my room and took absolutely no responsibility for this. The manager Mariam I think her name was, did nothing on the subsequent days of my complaints to even get back to me nor compensate me in any way for this horrific inconvenience. I had booked and paid for a superior room for 4 nights , more than 4 months in advance for a work conference. Please avoid this hotel at all costs. They are clueless when it comes to customer service and clearly don’t care about their clients. There are many other better options to consider around Stellenbosch. Protea Hotels should be ashamed of themselves, I will never support this hotel group again.

When I’m out from US to cape area, this is my go to property. I can’t always get in due to no room available but this is my first option. This property respects the Titanium status better than most US properties do. Excellent breakfasts, great service and uncompromising safety. I love the showers in the executive rooms. I push everyone who asks for recommendations for somewhere to stay to check this property out first. There’s a ton of great AirBnB in area, but this property is slightly better. Only hotel I say that about in Stellenbosch area.

This hotel is in a great location for wine tours. I stayed for a nearby wedding at Muratie winery. The hotel staff were lovely and very helpful, especially when our transport failed to turn up. Could not be better.
