Lovely stay at this hotel for my friends 60th birthday at east Stanley social club. Not everything went smoothly but how it was dealt with was a better experience than any alternative way of people who aren’t as nice as the staff at hotel 52. We also had a lovely meal at Rangos next door. We were offered a free drink for having to wait a long time for the soup. (We’ve just got back from a cruise where we waited 3 times as long 🤣) we declined the free drink as we were full and we didn’t think it took too long for the soup to come out. Thank you to both for a fabulous stay.

15 mins by car to Newcastle nothing around in walkable distance however an amazing restful place. Beautiful nature, good food and amazing service!

We would not hesitate to recommend this City Centre hotel. The rooms are not the biggest but more than enough space. The staff here are amazing. They are a credit to the chain. They deal with any problems quickly and most professionally. Thanks to them we had the most enjoyable stay…..thank you

The drive up to the castle was was fantastic as the view of the castle looked stunning. The entrance to the court yard for parking was quaint and inviting. The look of the court yard looking at all the out buildings looked inviting and very well presented. The “stocks” make for great entertainment The entrance to the reception is like looking for the secret door but the plaque at the side with history information explains why and is interesting to read. Inside the reception is is quite dark but this for me added to the ambience of the place. The staff where welcoming, polite and explained the hotel set up. We stayed in one of the room in the courtyard which was beautiful. Very nicely decorated and good value for money. The room was cozy. We’d booked to have a meal in the Knights Restaurant and we had pre drinks in the bar first The walk to the restaurant through the corridor into the central courtyard was very different yet beautiful. It’s so old and it was nice to see it was decorated and kept within “keeping” The bar again was inviting and cosy and it was great to see that the drinks and wine list was very reasonably priced. So often places know you are a target audience and inflate the prices ridiculously however in our opinion the castle had not done this. There was a good choice of cocktails and the “smoked” cocktails added that something a little bit different and we didn’t mind paying a few pounds more for the “quirkiness”. Again the staff where very professional, friendly and well presented. The walk from the bar/lounge area to the Knights Restaurant was stunning through the corridors of the castle and past a lovely looking staircase and when we walked into the restaurant I was overwhelmed as it was stunning and not what I was expecting. The arched ceiling, the lighting, the privacy of how the tables where set out we felt was very nice. We thought it all created a romantic setting. It was very secluded but included. The menu choice was good and the food was beautiful. The service was great too and again the staff were very professional, polite and very well presented. The prices on the menu varied so I would say they’d catered fo most people’s budget and it was your own choice on how much you spend Our nights sleep was comfortable and the walk back from the restaurant to the courtyard was well lit but again in keeping with been in a castle environment. Great use of mood lighting. My husband even went into the stocks on the was home (🤣) Breakfast the next morning again did not disappoint. The selection was fantastic and plenty of food to choice from Overall we can can not fault our experience. It was a lively venue with great facilities and very well presented. The staff where Courteous, polite, friendly and very well presented. I would recommend this as a place to go and stay. We must go back so we can stay in one of the castle rooms as I am sure they would be as good and maybe even more “quirkier” than the courtyard rooms which were very nice.

Our third stay in 12 months. We enjoy the location of this hotel, so handy for bars and restaurants; no taxis required! The breakfast is also amazing, loads of choice, food is hot and fresh, tables always clean and staff are well organised and friendly. The beds are really comfortable, and shower has always been good, and rooms/linen always clean. We like the ice bucket provided and machine in the hall, the complimentary water and having robes and slippers in the room. Two small points that weren't great were as follows. We've never yet had a working fridge in our room. Not sure whether this is a service no longer offered for some reason, if there's a way to switch it on/request it to be on or if we're just unlucky and always get one that doesn't work! Not a major problem, just would be nice to have, or take it away so we don't think it should be working. The other point is just the general decor, as in marked/damaged paintwork, tired fittings, and in this bathroom, damp affecting the grout and shower cubicle fittings plus a big crack in the sink. More wear and tear than cleanliness, and hopefully general freshen up/ refurb is on the cards soon. Still a great hotel in a great location, we'll be back!

We booked this vey late with the help of the Director Keith for a New Years Eve night away. We rang the day before to try and book the Gala dinner and we were called back on the day of arrival to say there was availability for it which we booked. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted at the desk by two very polite and approachable ladies who checked us in with speed and ease. We asked a few questions about the Gala dinner and they were answered. We got to our room which was a newly refurbished hideaway room in the annex building ( just a 10 second walk to the main building). Entering the room it was bright and looked very appealing. On the bed there was two sets of bundles with dressing gowns and slippers. There was a super king size bed with lots of inviting pillows and cushions with a nice thick quilt. Decor was to a high standard and fittings and fixtures suited the decor of the room. The bathroom was new with a very large walk in shower with raindrop and hand held heads. Very comfortable. Great fluffy towels added to the bathroom. We relaxed watching the large screen t.v while we were getting ready for the night. Arriving at the gala dinner we were shown to our table for the night which had a glass of bubbly and a tray of assorted chocolates for our consumption. We were joined by 6 other guests. The place was full but everyone had plenty of room to move about. There’s a huge crystal chandelier which hangs over the dance floor which is magnificent. We had a choice of meals which we had chosen prior to arrival for our six course night. We had a starter of - Chicken Terrine with sweet chutney and toast ( wife had soup) Then we had Haggis, neeps and tatties. Beef with mashed potatoes, turned vegetables and a wine gravy. We had a chocolate mint cheesecake for dessert. Coffee and tea. There was a live band and a DJ on for entertainment. Band was fantastic. Just before midnight we were presented with another glass of bubbly to see the new year in. We were invited outside at 00:05 for a fireworks display which was a great spectacle. Finished at 0100 but that was enough and a great evening was had with new friends and great food. Slept great and got up next morning for breakfast in the hotels restaurant Prego. Full hot Northumberland breakfast, fruit, cereals and juices were plentiful and what we had was great. The hotel has been refurbished to a high standard and would recommend this to anyone for accommodation and dining. There is also a spa with small pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Upstairs to it there is also a gym but we did not use on this stay unfortunately. I’ve given 5 stars as our stay was made special by the standard of the hotel and its staff which are a credit to it. Very economical! It's very convenient to go anywhere, very clean room, good value for money

Great location close to train station. Very clean modern hotel at a good price. Nice pretty chicks at the reception. Very comfortable bed and a great bathroom. Many attractions near the hotel. Snacks and drinks are available from the vending machine. There are code keys everywhere, which means that outsiders have limited opportunities to roam around the hotel. The only downside turned out to be that a room with a window means a room with a window to other windows from which other residents were staring.
