Paloma Garden Hotel

I'll start by saying one thing: Crete didn't make a splendid impression on us as soon as we got off at the airport (return flight from Bergamo to Heraklion operated by Aegean Airlines, perfect and reliable company, punctuality and service on board difficult to find on a charter) and we carried this feeling forward for the whole holiday so maybe the negative judgment is also given by that. But let's start step by step. LOCATION: The location proved to be strategic, not exactly on the sea but with a walk of about ten minutes you get to the stalis beach which in our opinion is the most beautiful in the area (from Heraklion to Malia, Potamos). Equipped beaches and crystal clear sea. STRUCTURE: The structure itself is also good, a hotel made up of several small buildings that "revolve" around a discreet and rather large swimming pool, with sunbeds available and a nice little garden as a backdrop. The general cleanliness is good even if the welcome was not the best. Upon arrival, you are welcomed by a disabled boy (presumably the owners' son) with visual and motor difficulties who does not make a good first impression. The boy is available and from all the info, however, of first reception, I would have preferred a more self-confident person (with this we do not mean that the disabled do not have to work, on the contrary, we are happy to share with them, but maybe I would have reserved him a job of reception but not reception). Also available billiards, table tennis. Too bad for the beautiful swimming pool with a nearby hydromassage that they covered, right on the sea view. ROOMS: We were aware of going to a decent hotel so we were prepared. However, the room turned out to be good, with a nice terrace and the minimum essential for a life on the sea (blind bathroom but with fan) no TV, no air conditioning, no minibar (the latter for a fee, expensive and salty) but we didn't care , we always slept well and never needed a TV. Cleanliness good but towels rarely changed. FOOD: God forbid!!!!!!!!!!!! Caritas offers more decent meals! We "ate" only the first night in this place then we decided to try eating out and magic, as soon as you set foot outside the hotel everything is delicious! Eating suitable for foreign customers accustomed to eating crap (British, Czech, Russian). Very little choice and very poor quality, both at dinner and at breakfast. There is no nutella or brioche. If you can and you can't find anything else, stay just one night and eat out, you can eat divinely! My advice is to avoid it. If you really can't do without it, try asking for the possibility of staying overnight only.

I don't understand these reviews here. The "hotel" is more of a guesthouse in terms of flair. The rooms are minimally equipped. Air conditioning, fridge and safe cost extra. All together about 15 € per day. Totally over the top. Showers are ok, only half the bath swims afterwards. However, the cleaning ladies do a great job. Yes, it is apparently family run, but no one gets a smile on their lips here and you are watched at every turn. The family usually sits at a table next to the bar and always looks at you grimly. Everything seems very careless and annoyed. Definitely not recommended for children. There are no play facilities, broken cots and only one booster seat. You have to clean them yourself, because nobody cares about that. The food is very sparse in the morning and always the same, in the evening it's ok, but salt is missing everywhere and there is always a new version of the food from the day before until it's gone. Then the menu starts all over again after 3-4 days. Oh and as a guest you have to clear your table yourself and at the buffet you get a certain McDonald's flair. The pool is a good size and behind it is a meadow, we lay on our blanket there, but it is forbidden to bring food and drinks with you. So all in all I personally don't recommend this hotel if it was very cheap ok but the price is a bit expensive for this type of accommodation. Other guests were also very annoyed by everything and especially by the family members who run this "hotel". Oh and the great thing was that our son had to throw up the night he arrived, unfortunately on the terrace next to the bar. We pointed this out immediately and went to the room with him. It was still there the next morning. I think that says a lot.

It was a simple but clean and tidy hotel. Lovely bed. We found the food fine, Greek / European but not much choice. Breakfast was a bit sparse but sufficient. A real Greek hotel that is run by a family. Little music or fun at the hotel.

Hôtel simple et très propre (mais pas de ménage le dimanche). Chambre spacieuse avec balcon. Belle piscine à débordement. Proche plages et commerces mais calme car en retrait de la route. Un plus appréciable location de voiture sur place.
