We recently stayed in the location of the Old Quay House . We drove past this Venue and as it looked so nice from outside and the location we decided to book a table the same night . We booked through the open table app a table for 4 at 7.45 as we could not get a 8pm slot . On arrival we walked o to the venue to find a nice clean and same toy decorated bat and restaurant . We noticed a lot of tables had reserved on them so we thought the place was going to get busy as there was only 3 tables with diners on a table of 8 ,table of 2 and a single diner . We ordered our drinks and informed the bar staff we had a table of 4 booked for 7.45pm which they asked for my confirmation email as they could not find it but then they did and said it was for only 2 despite the confirmation actually saying 4 . The manager / waiter said it would not be a problem and showed us to our table . Every table in our area had reserved on it . The waiter passed our menus and rattled off 4 not available dishes out of a roughly possible 18 dishes . We ordered our dishes but our young daughter could not see anything she liked as at present she’s going through a heathy eating stage and does not like the nice tasty greasy foods . We all ordered and she decided she was ok and did not order anything . The waiter asked her a few times and she politely declined and he said if she changed her mind they could quickly prepare her something so it came shortly after ours . We all received our meals which were all ok and my daughter decided she would have some of the chunky chips as they did not look greasy . I went to order some chunky fries at 7.55pm and the staff came back out of the kitchen saying the chef at turned off the fryer . Surely the oil was still hot as they had only just brought our meal out and if they turned on the fryers surely it would not take long to get up to temperature . We heard the chef swearing to the staff so it seems he was not happy having a late order . Soon after he came out of kitchen into bar when we could hear him say he lived to live not live to work . The meals we ok but a bit pricey as all of our meals were the type he would have source from the likes of Bidfood and brakes where you just heat them up.This was food the chef did not need to be very experienced to do as I am a supplier to the catering trades so are well aware or this type of quick food . If the chef was to provide a better menu with more freshly prepared and cooked food this place I am sure would be a very busy place or if he’s not willing to do this they need to employ a new chef with a bit more passion. This place as hot the potential to be really great . I never write reviews but I had to share this very honest review as I was very disappointed with it . This place on a Saturday night should be heaving .

We stayed in the Kingfisher lodge for three nights on a Cornish getaway break. We had a wonderful time, the lodge was very comfortable with outstanding views over the estuary. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the staff and service were second to none. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and will return.

We stayed one night after attending an old friend's funeral and then travelling onto the wake at the Old Quay House. So not a good reason for us to be there but the Old Quay House team could not have done any more for us (including sorting out my food allergies). Our en-suite Sandpiper Garden Lodge was fine as was the food at the wake and then again in the evening. The bar drinks were fine (including a decent pint of Guinness) so that we could all give our departed friend a good send off too. It was good to be able to do this in such a nice location and Birdies breakfast was fine the following morning . We are likely to return to the Old Quay House for a longer stay under better circumstances .

The lodges are very well equipped and comfortable although the wash basin’s small size is the only point needing improvement. Birdie’s Bistro for breakfast within a 5 minute walk at 10% discount proved to be excellent. Apparently the comments above are insufficient so I’m tying this to make up the necessary 200. Hope this world now.

on arrival Richard was very helpful with information, when entering number 7 all seemed good on the surface nicely furnished However,we left after one night of a two night stay, black mould on tiles/ sealant in shower/ hand basin, toilet smelt of sewage after flushing, smelt damp, fridge also smelt and was extremely noisy, being an ex Housekeeping Manager these standards are not acceptable.

I am a local who decided it would be nice to hold my 50th birthday meal at a place I have known all my life. I called and was told that there was another booking of 16 on the same night and that the kitchen wouldn’t be able to handle two bookings the same size, I questioned that they hadn’t asked a time (do we wouldn’t clash) but was told it didn’t matter what time. It was too stressful to ask the chef to cook for 32 people in one night. I could’ve laughed if I wasn’t so upset. I know the size of this venue and to say it wasn’t able to cater for us was ridiculous. Then when I asked for the owners email address so I could complain the call was cut off. When i called back the ‘manager’ Chris, laughed at me and said I was being overly sensitive and maybe I could book on another evening (not my birthday) to which I replied that I’d be leaving this review and taking my business elsewhere from now on. Customer service, what customer service? Avoid!!!
