Best Pet friendly Hotels in St Andrews

We originally visited Fairmont St Andrews in August 2021 since we could not visit the country of our choice due to the pandemic. We were super impressed with it, so much so, that we decided to revisit this August. We looked at other options such as rental homes and other hotels but nothing came out as giving us value for money. Rental homes don't have the benefits of a hotel and its facilities and other hotels were charging ridiculous prices as a like for like basis. The Fairmont in St Andrews came out the best value for money. We enjoy the Fairmont as it has the feeling of a resort hotel abroad. The service is spot on too. Just little niggles - that come from having previously stayed - so it is human nature to compare. This time I felt the cleanliness of the rooms was not as good. It was only some dust in the room and in the bathroom so it was not worth complaining about to reception. Secondly, and this come from maybe you being short staffed, is that the breakfast plates on tables were allowed to accumulate to the state where it did look quite untidy. I'm only mentioning these things to you in order for you to nip them in the bud and not allow a decline in standards over a longer period of time. Overall our stay was great. Breakfast is sufficient enough to keep you going until dinner. The atrium is a relaxing place to read a book and play cards. The swimming pool and spa facilities keep a family entertained. The hotel is not big, the location is just across the road from the old campus of St. Andrews University, very close to the commercial street and not far from the old stadium. The breakfast can be said to be relatively rich, there are several kinds of regular meals, and special, which changes with the seasons. The restaurant is almost full on weekends when there is a lot of people, and it is usually better. On-street parking outside the door is free but there is no private parking lot. It is easy to have a place during school holidays. I don’t know at other times.

Day trip to St Andrews with my parents and fancied a bite to eat. Well firstly I must say that all followers know that we dont mind paying good money for good food but £49.16 just for 4 fish and chips and that was before drinks. We had to wait 20mins for the food and we feel it wasn't worth the money. Yes we understand that St Andrews has a reputation for being up market and welcomes a lot of tourists and visitors (especially when the golf is on or other special occasions) but I am afraid to say that for a standard plate of fish and chips and the fact that the table was not large enough to cater for the plates for four people then this is where the Greyfriars Inn falls down. Yes my parents are elderly and my mum is a little wandered and people were staring which is very rude but not managements fault as you cannot help the clientele you have, I did try and chase up the meal as mum gets agitated if she has to wait and did not want her to cause a fuss for the sake of the pub itself. She deserves as much as anybody to eat out as do all disabled people. There did not seem to be enough staff as we were told they were very busy as had a full restaurant around the corner too. If it hadnt been for my parents being infirm and they needed to have lunch we would have left before being served. We didnt feel welcome at all and that is a very sad reflection on this establishment . Again sorry there are no photos but my parents in their 80's dont like mobile phones at the table. It was their treat. All in all not a great experience.
