Bed and Breakfast with dinner. Exceptional. The room was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The bathroom was modern with luxury soft towels, robes and toiletries. Dinner, I could easily run out of superlatives but the attention to detail with this menu was genius. The first three courses are served at the chefs table and are beautifully presented, hard to pick a favourite but the trout pastrami was sensational. Jarred and the team looked after us so well throughout the rest of this beautiful meal. As an extra, we opted for the lobster and scallop, amazing!!! Breakfast, table service with a menu which was difficult to choose from. Omelette with Arbroath smokie or eggs Royale? Opted for Scottish breakfast. Can't wait to return.

I'll start on a positive; my wife and I had the dinner tasting menu, which was absolutely excellent. In addition, we ordered the scallop with king oyster mushrooms, which was also excellent. The 'Black Friday' deal we had bought also included an overnight stay in a 'cosy double'. We've stayed in many hotels where the description was 'cosy double', but this took the term to a different level, with barely any room to move around and almost zero storage/hanging space. That said, the bathroom was lovely and almost spacious by comparison. We arrived at The Haar to be greeted by a very pleasant young woman who carried out the check-in formalities and showed us up to our room. She explained that there was an issue with the lock but showed us how it operated, etc. There was no issue locking when we left a short time later, but when we tried to do the same before going down for dinner, we couldn't lock the door. I reported this to one of the front of house staff, but he experienced a similar problem and stated he would ask his manager to look at it if we'd like to take a seat downstairs. A few minutes later, the manager appeared, declaring that the door was now locked and implied incompetence on our part. I reminded him that his colleague also experienced the same issue. Then the manager (still don't know his name) asked to see our voucher. We told him we didn't have a voucher, but we have emails confirming room and table bookings. However, he insisted we needed to produce the 16 digit reference or risk being charged again, despite the fact that we'd shown him our cr card payment on the banking app. To cut to the chase, this chap was borderline rude and despite clear proof of purchase and confirmation of bookings, failed to deal with a situation that was all of his and The Haar's administration system's doing, not ours. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

Very enjoyable stay. Comfortable bed so slept well. Coffee machine in room and homemade shortbread was a lovely touch. Dinner and breakfast amazing as were the staff. I will definitely return and have already recommended to friends. Great central location and close to beach area and shops. A great foodie experience all round.

Comfortable, clean, compact room, with a great shower facility. Although small, it had everything we required for our stay. The bed was super comfy and the towels and bathrobes were well sized and fluffy. Hotel is in a prime location for exploring the town attractions, sea front and, of course, the golf course.

This is a gastronomical restaurant with hotel rooms attached. So it’s a not obvious that it’s a hotel - but it is a gem . The rooms were small(ish) but we had a view to the sea, and they’re beautifully appointed. The young staff are helpful and charming. Breakfast, included in room fee, is outta this world. We were traveling w teens so didn’t take advantage of the tasting menu dinner. All in all, wonderful.

Pros: clean, reasonable bathroom, good breakfast, good location, nice receptionist. Cons: tiny tiny bedroom, poorly decorated, hot, tv doesn’t work, no wardrobe, no chair, no space for luggage, no desk, no lift, no parking, common parts clearly taken from a failing vegetarian restaurant, expensive, insecure locks, brown toilet roll. Overall, a bit pooey.

We had a lovely lunch at HAAR, which was exceptional food (A separate review). We also had booked to stay the night in their Standard King Room at a rate of £360 B&B. The room had everything one needed - locally sourced toiletries, water, shortbread and a nespesso machine; The bed was very comfortable. However it was small - I understand this is an old building, so space is limited, but found that it was overpriced. Especially as looking at costs subsequently, a week later they are approx £220 for the same room (£140 less than we paid last week). Also while there I received an email with an offer of DBB for £295 per night / 50% cheaper. HAAR, please standardise your room rates, so there is some consistency week to week.

Very small room indeed, bed comfortable enough. Lack of any wardrobe space, lack of coat hangers(4 No provided) a TV that totally refused to work and was impossible to programme and a shower whose temperature was impossible to control as it was boiling hot! Other than that everything was perfect!
