We were looking for the privacy of a vila with the amenities of a resort - and found the perfect place at Spilia! We had a private, 3 bedroom beautiful vila, with a great private pool. We added half board to the reservation - breakfast and dinner, and WOW, the food was AMAZING! We could not wait to get back to the village to eat dinner at the resort. The staff was amazing, EVERYBODY was extremely friendly, courteous, and helpful. We would be back, hopefully soon. We are in LOVE with Spilia & THANK YOU for making our vacation a memorable one ❤️🙏

We were stopping at a villa in the village and went to the hotel for dinner one night. We thought the food was very overpriced and fairly average quality, but it is a lovely location and the staff were excellent and very friendly. I guess its primary purpose is as a hotel rather than as a restaurant.

The hotel was absolutely fantastic, truly exceptional! The staff were incredibly well-trained, making our experience seamless and delightful. Now, about the restaurant – it was a dream! We had the pleasure of dining there for two unforgettable nights. The atmosphere was so inviting, and the manager, Manos , was a true gem. Not only was he a gracious host, but his expertise in wine elevated our dining experience to new heights! The breakfast, in my opinion, met my expectations quite well.

Some of the staff have a bit of an attitude problem. It also seemed mechanical the way the in-house restaurant manager ’Manos’ spoke to us and everyone else. Also he was dominant in his behavior towards the customers making it uncomfortable to say when something wasn’t right. Making it feel like we, the customers, are the problem. He was also favoring customers that responded better to his dominant ways of interacting. We spoke to several other couples there who agreed. On our first evening we had dinner in-house (the only time). When we got to the outside restaurant area, 2 staff and a random person sat smoking in the nearby bar, no one welcomed us until we stood in front of them looking confused. Went onto having an undercooked burger and a boring pork chop dish. Go to the nearby local restaurants (2 close by). The hotel should keep to breakfast and snack menu and then excel at these while working with the local area for eating out. It already being a village hotel this just makes sense to lift and utilize their surroundings better! Kudos to ‘GENI’ and ‘Vasillis’ a waiter and receptionist who both were good to us. The facilities have potential (a lot) but the execution is lacking accordingly. Pool area needs music. The lights around the hotel is something you install in your shed or a backlot with motion sensors. The table tennis area lacks all kinds of mood setting. Talking about the place resembling a shed, that area tops the list. Also the table was broken along with the bats. Use lamps that resemble a flame. Yeah all in all a lot could be done for the setting. You don’t get the feeling of being in a hotel that has the stars they tell you. On paper they achieve the stars, but not in our combined experience of the place.

This place was adorable. We had our own Villa with a private pool, but they’re main pool was also super nice. I loved the breakfast spot and seeing the orange and lemon trees on the property.

I don't usually stay at 4 star hotels, but when I compare Spilia Village with the two 2 star hotels I stayed at during this trip to Crete, it comes out as very poor on several fronts. To access my room required 'climbing' over a novelty hump back bridge. It was dangerous when wet and a completely unnecessary feature. Access was then down eight concrete steps, turn a corner and immediately up eight more concrete steps. Such an ill thought out design! My room was very dark. There simply wasn't a window, just patio doors, only one of which opened. The lighting was so subdued, I had to use a torch if I wanted to read in bed. The wardrobe had 'shifted'so it wasn't possible to pull open the drawers. Located in the darkest corner of the room, I needed my torch again, to find dark coloured items of clothing. The bed itself was nice and comfy, pillows were fine, as were the towels. There was a huge armchair in my room, taking up a silly amount of space and far too big for me - I felt like Goldilocks in Daddy Bear's chair. Luckily staff found me two cushions to pad the back of it. It was tricky finding staff if you fancied a drink. The poolside bar closed at 6pm, after which you had to go into the restaurant area calling out 'hello ... anyone there?' The breakfast was excellent. A very good choice including fresh fruit. The (optional) packed lunch I had was dire. I haven't had white sliced bread since the late 1980's! Evening meal was fine. Not excellent, but fine. The staff were lovely. I was disappointed that there was no written information in the room. Cheaper hotels had some taxi numbers, emergency info, details of local interest. The entire layout, including interior restaurant area, was a trip hazard, and I'd be surprised if each season didn't produce a few sprained ankles slips and trips. So, although on the whole I enjoyed my stay, (despite all these issues), I think I'll stick with 2 star hotels, where common sense, windows and decent wattage lighting prevail.
