Pros: the hotel is a beautiful design, the ammenities are gorgeous and the rooms are large and quiet. There is a great masseur we had whose name I can’t remember but a lovely Indian man who was very knowledgeable and gave fantastic treatments. The sound bowl healing and meditation were great. The tour guide was exceptional who took us to the mystras fort - proper archeologist with a deep understanding of not only the local history but also the topography, flora and fauna. Highly recommend. Cons: the food is repetitive - the menu is the same for lunch and dinner for the whole week so after 3 days we were bored of it. They also refuse to allow you to order from the snack menu unless by the pool area and won’t serve things like sandwiches unless at specific times. I tried to get a chicken wrap one day at 3pm and it was impossible. On another day, to get a simple chicken, salad wrap cost 29 euro! The drive is about 3hrs from closest airports which is a bit of a downside - the drivers are great but it does really eat into your trip. When you consider needing to arrive 3hrs before an international flight and 3hrs transit it’s bulk of your day gone in transiting. Next time we would choose somewhere closer to a main transfer train or airport. The yoga wasn’t very good, it was more like stretching than yoga. I ended up just doing yoga videos from YouTube instead.

i have never written a single review. but i had to write this one. this hotel caters to conventions and one night visits. of which we were one. already our expectations were quite low. rambling, tired property with DARK rooms making us forget we were in sunny Greece. our daughter got food poisoning from a pork entee (eaten only by her) our one night there--we were fine. she spent the entire evening in the bathroom from midnight on vomiting hourly. we were forced to cancel our trip to Olympia and return to athens as she was barely able to keep water down. i went to the front desk to register our experience and our situation. the food and beverage director was summoned and i told him of our experience and asked to be credited for our stay. this is would be a common request in luxury hotels in the US certainly (which mystras purports to be) and credit would be given immediately in most circumstances. BUT the director gave me a lengthy mansplaining of how severely he was regulated by the EU, the compliance forced upon his kitchen for cleanliness and the frequent inspections and how it would be practically an act of god for there to be someone who got sick from the food as a result. he mansplained further that other than my daughter no one of the very few guests at dinner that evening got sick. so surely it was a malady she brought to the hotel. it most certainly was not. seeing that there was no graciousness to be expected from him, I asked for a credit for our food and received EUR 18.60 for the entree. As it happened we went next to a real five star resort on the adriatic south of Athens who had a Dr. on staff and immediately gave an anti-nausea injection. he told us that if she did not improve we would need to go to the hospital for intravenous rehydration! i then subsequently told our private tour provider of this incident and asked him to use his best efforts to secure a refund for the stay. he was told the same thing we were. EU regulations, inspections etc.
