We stayed here for one night having visited the Haynes motor museum nearby. The pub is a bit off the beaten track on a country road. We were welcomed and shown to our rooms and advised that the pub was closed until 6.00, so we had a chance to get a shower, etc. the room was spacious enough for two of us- we had booked two twin rooms. Tea and coffee was provided and the bed was super comfy. The bar area was welcoming and the staff were all lovely. We all had a delicious meal- I went for Ham Hock followed by Fish and chips, with cheese & crackers to finish with. Breakfast was also good and the staff again were lovely, a good way to start our day before the journey back home. There had been heavy rain in the night and the road outside had a lot of standing water, but looked like most vehicles could still get through with care- my friend has a Land Rover so we had no issues. My only criticism is that the cheese course could have been a bit larger and a choice of maybe 3 cheeses rather than just the one, but it didn’t detract from our overall experience.

Dinner at The Red Lion at Babcary has to be one of the best meals we’ve ever eaten and having been in the food industry for many years and eaten in restaurants all over, I think I qualify as a pretty good judge. We were given a warm welcome, the service was excellent and with sparkling glasses and a great log fire, what else could you want from a country pub?

We stopped past this pub my mother, and I on our way to our cottage as we walked through the door. The staff were very welcoming, polite and professional. The food was extremely tasty and reasonable in price, and The members of staff will very helpful when we were trying to locate the nearest amenities, thank you very much and we will definitely come back!

Over night and dinner We only live 4 miles away but needed to take an away day from our pride and joy ( 11 year old son ) where we had organised sitter who we knew could cope. Wanted to be close in case…… However, what a find The rooms are cosy, warm and inviting Great bathroom, fresh milk and water But but but Dinner was sublime, understated excellence Great talent in the kitchen, o cheek ravioli with sliced sirloin, rare as you could want. Greens and a rich full gravy Puddings to die for and ripe cheese I met the owner when leaving and said one of the best meals I had eaten, up with Ramsey Not over expensive, A tremendous experience, many thanks

This was the second time we had stayed at this lovely old inn. The room was exceptionally clean and a very good size with all mod cons. The complimentary shower gel, shampoo etc were a very good quality and it was lovely to have a cafetière and fresh milk. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was first class. All being well we’ll be back next year on our way to Cornwall

Lovely stay and wished it were for longer. Perfect little hidden gem. Buzzy atmosphere in bar, restaurant and beer garden. Outstanding meal in the evening and great breakfast. Staff very friendly, hardworking and helpful. Room had everything we needed and very clean. Our little dog was made most welcome too. Well situated for visiting the lovely towns of Frome and Glastonbury. Also good stop off when heading for Devon and Cornwall. Thoroughly recommend.

We booked a table at 7pm of 14 for my Mother-in-laws 80th. We were told to pre-order which was fine but then received an email saying “arrive at 6.30pm for a drink for seating at 7pm”. Thought it was a bit pushy but got there for 6.30pm. From the moment we arrived it was was clear they couldn’t wait to get us out! We were asked if we wanted to start the meal as soon as we arrived. When we said we would like a drink first in the garden it was clear they were not happy. They said fine but our dinner would be on the table at 7pm! They “didn’t have a booking after us but it might get busy later”. We sat down at just gone 7pm and they were putting the starters down before we were even seated! Things got much worse. After asking one of the group how he would like his steak (medium rare) the staff were overheard by one of our group taking the p**s out of his choice. They were confronted and he was offered a half hearted apology. The food was not great, the duck was overcooked, the chicken had sinues left on them, the lamb had a hair in it. The vegan option was a joke (after 3 requests for an option prior to ordering - and being told a cheese fondue was vegan). Ratatouille with fennel seeds and a sliced raw avocado! We literally couldn’t wait to leave, we had 2 bottles of wine between us and left before pudding (both of which we would normally have indulged in). After all the rudeness and disrespect we had endured we weren’t even offered a discretionary discount or a free drink - which is the least they could have offered considering. Needless to say we had left by 8.30pm! I would not recommend this place to anyone hoping for a pleasant evening with good service and nice food!

Congratulations to the chefs who prepared our starters and mains absolutely stunning and paired together with all the flavours so well. We where told there was a wait on food from the start but was well worth waiting for, we work within hospitality also so understood the situation and could see it was very busy for a monday lunchtime. Will be back, beautiful pub with quality food holding it's own........Thank you the team at The Red Lion.
