Great location close to train station. Very clean modern hotel at a good price. Nice pretty chicks at the reception. Very comfortable bed and a great bathroom. Many attractions near the hotel. Snacks and drinks are available from the vending machine. There are code keys everywhere, which means that outsiders have limited opportunities to roam around the hotel. The only downside turned out to be that a room with a window means a room with a window to other windows from which other residents were staring.

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel about half a dozen times in the last 12-15 years in former Marriott days and now under the Elite Selection label. We have always loved its location and found it a good base forlocal and regional visits. We feared standards would fall under the present owners, but, although some economy measures are evident, the accommodation and decor have improved markedly over the last 12 months, and the staff are unbelievably friendly and helpful. We found receptionist Ronnie exceptionally friendly and facilitative, and nothing was too much trouble for housekeeping staff Ellie and Wilailak. The latter endeared herself to our grandchildren by responding to their teasing and joining in their little games. Everywhere was very clean and the food was plentiful. The pool and jacuzzi were a welcome afternoon base after spending the morning at the South Shields marine park and then the extensive funfair across the road. The following morning we went successfully searching for sea glass on Seaham's beaches.

Well what a little gem of a Hotel. Beautiful location right next to the Castle and near the Quayside. We had a lovely stay, the Staff were fantastic! So helpful and polite and friendly and very very professional. We felt very special and looked after. The hotel is spotlessly clean and our room was lovely. We didn't have any meals there except for breakfast which was tasty and there was plenty of options, the Staff in there again were very lovely and attentive. Saying all this a couple of little niggles the Hotel was so hot! To be fair the weather was beautiful when we were there but there is no air conditioning in the building. I do appreciate it is an older building and it's not always possible to install Air Con Units but a few fans scattered around would have made it a bit more bearable in the public areas . There was a fan provided in our bedroom which was very welcome as the sun facing the windows all day ! We also found the bed not very comfortable, the mattress was too hard for our liking but then this may suit other people so it's not a criticism really of the Hotel more our preference to have a softer mattress. All in all we Would definitely go back to this hotel but I think I would go in the colder months.

Fantastically located on the quayside. The hotel has parking spaces but these are limited and therefore I parked at the car park opposite Gateshead college, around 6 mins walk away. Tbh it was cheaper to park there than the hotel car park and not that far. The hotel itself is nicely presented and the adjoined bar on the ground floor also has outdoor seating so that you may enjoy the views. The views itself are very decent from the room I was in. The room was very clean apart from a few handprint stains on the wall above the toilet in the bathroom. They looked more like old stains which probably wouldn’t come out unless it was painted again. Can’t comment on breakfast as I didn’t have any, but the hotel provided a complimentary coffee voucher from the bar and also some money off food from their restaurant. Overall a nice hotel and would stay again if ever in the area.

Very good, good location, good environment, next to the bright stadium, professional service standards, come to Ctrip to book it, really very favorable, strongly recommend Ctrip to protect the interests of customers.

This hotel is very cost-effective, as reflected in: 1. It is about 5 minutes walk from Sunderland train station and bus station. It is in the city center, and it is only 2 minutes walk to the bridges shopping mall. There are also many restaurants in the surrounding area. 2. Since it is a newly built hotel in 2022, the facilities are very new and modern, and the rooms are relatively clean. As a slightly clean freak, I am quite satisfied, but there are some unknown stains on the pillow, so I put on my own pillow cover. The reason for giving the facilities 4 stars is that the sound insulation effect is too poor. People passing by the door can clearly hear their speeches, but it is relatively quiet to sleep at night. 3. There are really not many choices for breakfast, and everyone feels tired of eating the next day. The price is not cheap, so I personally don't recommend eating buffet breakfast in the hotel. 4. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Summary: If you go to Sunderland again in the future, you will definitely consider living here again. This hotel is not a place to stay for more than two nights. They do not clean your room and provide replenished supplies. You have to ask every time you need something, tissues toilet paper milk tea coffee clean towels soap. It is an hotel with many rooms but it seems as though there are only four disabled parking places close to the front of the hotel the last couple of nights the two disabled parking spaces were filled by expensive Porsches that did not display blue badges. Seems they think they can do what they like The parking is monitored by parking eye. Be careful as you may end up with a hefty parking charge from ******* like them It gets very noisy at the weekends, ask for ear plugs and they look at you stupid. Generally they could save a fortune by turning the hot water temperature down and using thermostatic mixer taps. The aircraft noise starts between 6am and 7 am. There seems to be a lot of secrecy you have to ask for menu’s then get told where to get it Be a good idea if they had menus in the rooms.food not bad reasonable price but would have liked menu in rooms Interesting caveats you don’t get a refund if you have a covid related issue or if Ukraine causes problems but they do not have any protocol’s in place about social distancing. The lifts are a free for all and there are no notices about about who should be in the lift . I think the rated capacity is 10 or 75 kg. I would like to see limits on lift capacity and stopping un related people entering the lifts. Three times I told people I did not want to share the lift but they still piled in so I left. One way to prevent this would be to not have interrupted journeys if you get in on floor 2 and want to go to ground floor do not stop at level 1. They seem to be more concerned with their profits than customer safety or protection. You can get rooms cheaper on other websites than their own checkin Would I be going back? ?? Not 100% sure yet but 99.99% I won’t be returning

The drive up to the castle was was fantastic as the view of the castle looked stunning. The entrance to the court yard for parking was quaint and inviting. The look of the court yard looking at all the out buildings looked inviting and very well presented. The “stocks” make for great entertainment The entrance to the reception is like looking for the secret door but the plaque at the side with history information explains why and is interesting to read. Inside the reception is is quite dark but this for me added to the ambience of the place. The staff where welcoming, polite and explained the hotel set up. We stayed in one of the room in the courtyard which was beautiful. Very nicely decorated and good value for money. The room was cozy. We’d booked to have a meal in the Knights Restaurant and we had pre drinks in the bar first The walk to the restaurant through the corridor into the central courtyard was very different yet beautiful. It’s so old and it was nice to see it was decorated and kept within “keeping” The bar again was inviting and cosy and it was great to see that the drinks and wine list was very reasonably priced. So often places know you are a target audience and inflate the prices ridiculously however in our opinion the castle had not done this. There was a good choice of cocktails and the “smoked” cocktails added that something a little bit different and we didn’t mind paying a few pounds more for the “quirkiness”. Again the staff where very professional, friendly and well presented. The walk from the bar/lounge area to the Knights Restaurant was stunning through the corridors of the castle and past a lovely looking staircase and when we walked into the restaurant I was overwhelmed as it was stunning and not what I was expecting. The arched ceiling, the lighting, the privacy of how the tables where set out we felt was very nice. We thought it all created a romantic setting. It was very secluded but included. The menu choice was good and the food was beautiful. The service was great too and again the staff were very professional, polite and very well presented. The prices on the menu varied so I would say they’d catered fo most people’s budget and it was your own choice on how much you spend Our nights sleep was comfortable and the walk back from the restaurant to the courtyard was well lit but again in keeping with been in a castle environment. Great use of mood lighting. My husband even went into the stocks on the was home (🤣) Breakfast the next morning again did not disappoint. The selection was fantastic and plenty of food to choice from Overall we can can not fault our experience. It was a lively venue with great facilities and very well presented. The staff where Courteous, polite, friendly and very well presented. I would recommend this as a place to go and stay. We must go back so we can stay in one of the castle rooms as I am sure they would be as good and maybe even more “quirkier” than the courtyard rooms which were very nice.
