Stayed at Compston House over the Easter weekend. Megan and John are very welcoming and friendly! Our room was clean, tidy and had everything you needed. We parked using the parking pass in the local car park and had no issues. The breakfast options were great and cooked nicely, not sure what they do to their hash browns but they are unreal! 5 stars just for the hash browns. Recommend going to The Priest Hole for dinner if you are staying here, it’s just up the road and incredible food!

YHA Grasmere is a lovely place to stay in the lakes. Fantastic location, just a few minutes walk from town, but it could be in the middle of no-where. Tranquil and beautiful. The staff are all incredibly friendly, helpful and caring. Breakfast is very good and an excellent evening meal. I booked a private room, which was large and the bed was comfortable. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Will definitely be back

We stayed in room 11 and were really pleased with the room. It was spacious with a comfortable bed. The place was spotless throughout and had a laid back feel, which we liked. The bathroom was luxurious with a shower and a separate spa bath. Again spotless however the glass door to the bathroom wasn’t ideal, leaving us with no privacy. The location is stunning and central to the village and handy for the shops and cafes etc and we could come and go as we pleased. On arrival we were greeted by whom I can only assume is the manager, slightly eccentric but a nice man. Check in was a bit rushed but we were fine with that. The only negatives really was that it would have been nice to have an iron in the room. I did ask for one but it never arrived. I realise it’s not a hotel but not everyone who stays are hikers. The spiral stairs to the top floor, where we were are way too steep. We are in our 50s and we struggled. There were elderly people in rooms next to us so I don’t know how they managed. They could do with a lift if it were possible. Parking isn’t great. Breakfast was a bit awkward, we are both vegan and we went elsewhere the first morning but we were told that if we got to the kitchen at 9.40 the next morning , there would be vegan sausages waiting for us. We got there on time only to discover we had been forgotten about. The manager did his best but we had to wait and it was a bit uncomfortable and ended up with 2 sausages and some beans. No vegan butter etc. A bit of extra thought would go a long way. We were booked to stay for 2 nights and asked if we could stay a third but unfortunately they couldn’t accommodate us and we booked in to the Wordsworth Hotel next door. What a mistake that was, not a patch on the Moss Grove. We would have crawled back on our knees if they could have taken us back! Regardless of everything, it was a lovely place, with a relaxed and friendly vibe,clean, spacious and we would love to go there again one day.

1. Location, the hotel is just by the lake, but it is a 30-minute drive from Windermere, and it is far from the Lake District. 2. Some rooms can accommodate an extra bed, 15 pounds a day, including breakfast. 3, the hotel is large and has a lot of parking spaces. 4. The meal is great, classic English. 5, the hotel toiletries are good, is the British Royal Development Supplies MB, the bathroom's heating rack is open in the summer, the towel will be done overnight. Booked through ******* where this hotel had a rating of 9. I would put at nearer a 7. Rooms were ok….clean and comfortable enough. En-suite was nice as had been refurbed. Communal areas tired. Breakfast area and restaurant more like a cafe. I had the garlic mushrooms with lemon and time on bruschetta with a side salad, this was a starter as a main. Really weird flavor….really didn’t enjoy. Creamy garlic mushrooms would have been nicer….the bruschetta wasn’t toasted hardly and was soggy…£9. Hubby lasagne was nice £17. Noticed someone getting sausage and mash in a smallish bowl. Two sausages and a bit of mash….£19.50! 😳 Also saw on the menu a cheesecake dessert was £9.50!!! Expensive and average! Breakfast was awful….cold plates, barely cooked bacon and sausage….hash browns that you couldn’t even cut into….just not nice! Staff were friendly enough but on arrival our tv wasn’t working….husband went down twice to advise….as he was desperate to watch the football. Was told it would be 8pm (2 hours) before anyone could help. Was offered another room instead but when he went to look at it he said it was a bit grim dark and dingy so stayed where we were and managed to get tv going. Then we realised we weren’t given the WiFi password when checked in so back down to reception he went….more than a little annoyed by this time! Anyway overall as I said just bang average….just off a really busy road too so road noise from our room was bad too….the header photo on ******* had a water view so that’s where we thought it was set. Wouldn’t stay again…..would have rather spent my money elsewhere….costly average experience 👎

It is a perfect hotel with a great view. The layout and lighting at every angle are designed with meaning. You can take great photos no matter how you take them. You can see the lake from the hotel. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel, so it is convenient to go anywhere. You can also call a taxi. It is worth staying!
