2 brothers run this hotel now and they are both friendly and efficient. The Sunday lunch was excellent and the red house wine highly drinkable. The younger brother runs the bar whilst the older brother is the chef. I wish these guys the best of luck and great success in their venture.

Clean, comfortable, excellent location and food. Really helpful and friendly. Modbury a delightful village, the church is spectacular and this is a great place to stay in the main street. We enjoyed our visit very much and thanks to Gareth and staff.

Super room, very comfortable bed. Loved the details including bathrobes, mugs with white hart motif, fan, toiletries and a coffee machine! Staff and owner efficient, friendly and very welcoming. Fabulous breakfast and we had a great evening meal too. Obviously new owner doing an amazing job.

An absolutely stunning Sunday lunch, with all courses a total delight. We were a large group and all meals were served perfectly to time. The service was exceptional - friendly and attentive. Shame we were on holiday, otherwise this would become a regular place to eat.

Food was excellent. The chef explained the menu and his specials - all local produce. The service was outstanding, and the food tasty, perfectly cooked and presented. The best meal we have had in ages and worth paying that little bit extra for the specials. I had fillet steak topped with lobster Thermidor and my husband had venison. This chef definitely knows his meat and how to cook it and is creatively paired with accompaniments.

Wish we'd discovered this place earlier. Without doubt the best food we've had in a very long time. The staff simply couldn't have been More helpful in explaining what each dish consisted of, All our meals were served using fresh locally sourced ingredients. A definite place that we will be only too pleased to visit on our next trip to Devon... I strongly advise anyone visiting the area to add this to their list of things to do....

My boyfriend and I booked a table at the White Hart as the reviews were so good…oh my it didn’t disappoint! We were greeted by a lovely and bubbly waitress who showed us to our table and then we ordered a lovely g n t and pint of beer…Hard to chose as the bar was so tastefully stocked!! This place is an absolute must if you are passing through modbury- we ordered fillet steaks as a special treat which were cooked to perfection; the chef even came out and poured over the treacle jus which was divine. We paired this with the bottle of Malbec which was perfect! We finished the meal with a free pudding - an offer the restaurant had- which was very very yummy!! A really wonderful experience- food, staff and decor was amazing! We will be returning.

So….last evening of a weeks trip to Bigbury on Sea. The weather has been superb. The sea beautiful and the family loved it all. Needed a close by place to eat. Looked at the White Hart on reviews and seemed ok. People, more than ok!! If you want local food, expertly cooked and professionally serviced then this is the place. Asked if we could bring the spaniel and they said no problem. In fact on arrival a blanket by the table was provided and a few dog biscuits too. Delicious!! (The dog said so). They didn’t have to do this but it shows another level of customer service. In the post pandemic world only the good restaurants will thrive and this is one that deserves to. Only one guy serving but was fast and competent and you never had to wait or ask for anything - he was there. Great service throughout. Three of us (not including the spaniel) had starters - fabulous black pudding scotch egg. If you’re new to this delicacy then this is the place to try it. Better half had garlic mushrooms in a great crispy coating and no1 daughter had the freshest scallops ever. Very, very good. Mains - great local lamb rump and the chef came out to recommend how it was best cooked. Not pretentious but a man who knows his local food. Local hake and chicken - both excellently done. Great desserts - chocolate mousse and sticky toffee pudding. Wine selection needs to be improved as I am hoping that this restaurant will generate lots of new visitors this Summer!! Discover The White Hart and it’s great food
