A group of four of us came in for dinner, and we were literally blown away... my partner and I normally split two dishes between us and we were on the edge of fighting over the food! We got the sausage and mash and the steak & ale pie, and we both agreed that we hadn't had better at anywhere else we'd been to - proper home cooked food. Absolute gem of a pub, staff were so lovely and chatty too!

Stayed one night in one of the rooms - the Mary Queen of Scots - behind the pub. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Very large, comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom. Quiet location but easy to find. Breakfast provided in the morning was freshly cooked and delicious. Would thoroughly recommend.

We had a family gathering in the upstairs function room of the British Queen, on the 12th May. 18 of us had a meal together & as we live locally, were able to walk to the pub along the lovely riverside path to it, enjoying the pigs, chickens, sheep, ducks & beehives in the grounds of the pub. One waitress(Lilly) served a delicious main course to us all. Nothing was too much trouble for her & she smiled throughout, even though she had to run up & down the stairs on a hot day. The food was attractively arranged on the plates, the vegetables were cooked to perfection & the portions were plentiful. There is an outside verandah & as the doors were open to it, the children could play there & there was a cooling breeze to enhance our experience.

Stayed in the rooms at the back of the pub it was very clean and modern purpose built building with all things needed, towels, mini soaps, kettle, tea coffee cups. Had our evening meal at pub very nice. Lovely place to stay over and explore the area. Lovey breakfast too which you pre order the night before

Lovely village pub, cosy dining rooms with real fires, friendly attentive staff, good kids menu and situated next to a nice river walk. Food was great with excellent portion sizes, but the reason for the review was the BEST steak pie I have had for a long time. Perfect.

To be avoided until they sort out the timing, chef and management. We were so disappointed with Sunday’s Christmas meal. What happened? Through out the year we have had an amazing selection of fresh vegetables with our meals . Which is why we chose to go there this year for our special occasion. We waited 45 minutes before we even got a plate of sliced bread!!! ( why?!?!! It wasn’t even nice bread or rolls) When our food eventually came.. we were so disappointed. Only 1 bowl of fatty carrots and butternut squash with skin on and not cooked properly . The turkey was nice, but 4 small Brussels sprouts? Really? With overcooked pancetta ( I am guessing, couldn’t tell so hard)? When we were asked how our meal was… I said , as I have written, how disappointed we were. A very pleasant waitress apologised. We then waited 15 minutes for pudding… I asked how long it would be and was told there was a table of 14 to be served before us!!! Magically when I said we wouldn’t have our pudding it appeared. I have always recommended the food here. Sadly I cannot anymore. This is not the way to run a successful business. I felt sorry for waitresses working so hard. What were people in charge doing? no manager came to apologise. Wether it is overbooked or a new chef sadly this is not good enough.

We held our daughter’s 18th birthday family celebration at the British Queen. The staff were welcoming, friendly & helpful. The buffet was plentiful and so good. Pizzas, chips, halloumi, wraps, onion rings, homemade sausage rolls (the best), wraps, sandwiches - all dietary requirements catered for. We held the celebration in the upstairs dining area and were able to use to balcony as it was a gorgeous day. Highly recommended.

Honestly one of the worst pubs in the area - avoid like the plague. The food tastes like it comes from a frozen packet and the workers are even worse! The man behind the bar was miserable and uninviting and my pint was flat. One worker, a young boy, was lovely and somewhat made the experience better. TRUST ME, there are much nicer pubs around the area - The Chequers, The Plough, The Queens Head.
