Embassy Suites by Hilton South Bend at Notre Dame

Excellent stay, the hotel still looks new, our room was clean, comfortable and the a/c was not loud (sometimes the on and off all evening is so loud at some places). Lesley was so kind and really made us feel welcome. Yes there is a parking fee, as I see a lot of comments about it on the reviews. That’s just the way it goes in some places. I also saw comments about the rooms being smaller compared to other Embassy Suites, that is the case. We weren’t traveling with kids so it was fine for the two of us in a King Suite, last time we stayed at an ES with two kids and it was the typical larger room we have experienced. This would have been manageable but tight. Also the kids are younger, would have been tight with like two teenagers. But I can’t speak to the 2Q room so perhaps it’s larger. Yes, they do have breakfast buffet style but staff serves it to you. I prefer that way, they were professional and wearing gloves. I don’t want a bunch of strangers using their hands with the tongs over and over and breathing directly on the food I’m about to eat. I saw they were giving hearty portions and asked for a smaller amount when it was my turn and a bit more of another item and they were very accommodating. One thing that I wish was different, you can approach the bathroom from the bedroom and living room which is great, but the light for the bathroom is next to the living room door but not another one by the bedroom entrance. I wish it had two as it was hard to navigate in the dark without using my phone for light. Just a small thing but would be nice.

The room is large, clean, the bed is soft, the condition is OK, the breakfast is quite comfortable, it is a hotel relatively close to the University of Notre Dame nearby, and it takes less than 20 minutes to walk through the grove to the school.

I found this Hotel on my IHG app while looking for Hotels in the area. I was in the South Bend area for business and looking for a Hotel close to New Carlyle. The price for a one night was what closed the deal. This is a budget-friendly hotel with large spacious clean rooms. There is no 'breakfast' at the hotel but they have vending machines and many restaurants close by. I found a nice sized kitchen area, a large desk/work area, a large comfy queen bed, and a large bathroom inside my room. Overall my stay was good, but the rooms could use a touch of modernization. The rooms lack USB ports but they have electrical outlets around the room, so I was able to charge most of my devices. The Wifi connection was strong and I was able to connect through a firewall to my company server to check emails and update my CRM. I did find streaming was okay as well as I went online for Netflix and Amazon Prime and have no buffering issues. I would have given this property 4 stars but cleanliness was an issue. I found dirty smudges on the entrance door, cup ring stains on the nightstand by the bed and hair in the drain in my shower (yech!!). Aside from that, the bathroom was large and relatively clean with plenty of towels and full shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in the shower. The Fitness room had enough equipment for a basic workout. It had cardio machines and free weights as well as some other accessories. I got in a good 45-minute workout with weights and the cardio machine and also did some stretching (ROMWOD) on the only supplied exercise mat. Would I stay here again...yes, as the price is right but cleanliness needs to be improved and I would like to see a touch of modernization with USB and maybe USB-C ports in the work area and the nightstands.

After traveling for the last 30 days and staying at a different Hilton brand each night this was by far my least favorite. After traveling for hours we arrived at hotel at 1:12pm and went in to check why the app was not showing my digital key coming and was told ”we don't have digital key and If I check you in before 2:30 we charge a early check in fee.” So we sat in our vehicle in an empty parking lot that was still empty the next morning for an hour. I did not check reviews before arriving(shame on me). When we did check in the coffee in lobby was cold as it was the next morning at 9am as well. Room was clean except for dead flies on a/compliance. I read another review about flies, maybe a problem. Breakfast area and lobby were very dirty crumbs & garbage all over. Breakfast area was not being taken care of despite 3-4 employees chatting behind front desk..and again cold coffee. Ice maker on 3rd floor broken. This property is far below Hilton standards in my opinion and I will not stay again. Plenty of other Hilton properties near by stay. I am glad this was at the end of our trip as it may have turned me against the Hilton name altogether. Please see my other Hampton reviews as I normally leave a 5. Not for this one. Maybe they do well with the college so close..but it's worth the drive to Elkhart for a much better experience!

While the lobby was beautiful, and the aesthetics are nice- the bed was super uncomfortable. Parking was across the street, and absolutely ridiculous price for the small town of SB. $22 a night? Give me a break South Bend. Noise from the street was constant, and very loud. We were awake most of the night. My favorite moment that let me know we would not return was when a food delivery driver drove down the sidewalk, necessitating people trying to use the sidewalk for walking to have to get out of the way. Pass on South Bend downtown.
