I choose this hotel for our week's holiday in Sorrento as I thought the location looked handy and the reviews were largely good. The hotel itself looks very smart and presentable from the front and in the reception area. The rooms, however, and the rear of the hotel, leave a fair bit to be desired and definitely need smartening up. Our room had no air conditioning for the entire week. We mentioned it a few times but the staff seemingly had no interest in resolving the issue. Thankfully they were able to provide us with a large fan, which helped, given that we were staying during temperatures in the middle 30s! There was also a strange fusty damp smell in our room which could, I suppose, have been linked to the faulty air conditioning. Our room was clean though and made up every day. Saying that, I would not recommend though looking too closely at your pillows! My pillow case partly came away and I was shocked at the state of the pillow within! The staff were mostly friendly and helpful although one or two were of a more surly disposition! The staff in the bar were both lovely. The food in the restaurant was good although overpriced for what it was and a fairly narrow selection. We ate in the restaurant next to the hotel, which was excellent and highly recommended. Breakfast was typical of a continental selection with a wide choice. The only thing I didn't like was that a lot of the food was left uncovered and there were a lot of flies around, landing on the food. I have to mention the location. People have said it's on a busy road. It's actually on the junction of two busy roads so you have four lanes of heavy traffic going by. This means there is constant noise from traffic stop-starting, beeping their horns and generally racing off. It is relentless and, if in a room at the front, must be pretty unbearable. Whilst the hotel cannot help the location, it is a consideration and is definitely one reason that we would not stop there again. Finally, a lot has been said in other reviews about whether it's walkable into the centre of Sorrento. I suppose the answer depends on your level of fitness but be aware that it's a slog back uphill and for the most part there are no pavements so you are walking with busy traffic. There is a bus stop very close to the hotel though which will take you into town for €2. So, all in all, a mixed review but our overall feeling is that we would not stay there again.
