Our first time in Sorrento, chose this hotel because of reviews and was not disappointed. Staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. Spotless clean, room made up every day with fresh towels if you wish. Air con worked a treat and the staff left it on after cleaning which is unusual- meant we returned to a cool room when we'd been out. Breakfast was lovely, I never saw any flies whatsoever despite previous review. The hill isn't bad at all, traffic is well aware of pedestrians- the locals are walking and running on that road so it's not a problem at all. There's a deli up the hill, sarnies are AMAZING!! We had a garden room, 104. It was very peaceful and overlooking the olive grove :) Will definitely stay here again when we return to Sorrento in the future.

Very clean hotel, with friendly helpful staff. Had a garden room view, very clean and quite quiet. The hotel is high up, the walk into Sorrento takes around 15-20 minutes, but there isn't a path for around 200 metres so I wouldn't want to walk with a buggy or small children. That being said, although the road is busy the motorists do give pedestrians plenty of room. The breakfast is nice, but like most buffet breakfasts becomes a little repetitive. We ate at the hotel one evening, the food was very good but the restaurant next door is better and a little cheaper. We had a small issue with our room, but was resolved straight away. The pool area is very good, and larger than the photos appear - and again very clean. I'd book this hotel again, the staff are all amazing and very helpful.

I choose this hotel for our week's holiday in Sorrento as I thought the location looked handy and the reviews were largely good. The hotel itself looks very smart and presentable from the front and in the reception area. The rooms, however, and the rear of the hotel, leave a fair bit to be desired and definitely need smartening up. Our room had no air conditioning for the entire week. We mentioned it a few times but the staff seemingly had no interest in resolving the issue. Thankfully they were able to provide us with a large fan, which helped, given that we were staying during temperatures in the middle 30s! There was also a strange fusty damp smell in our room which could, I suppose, have been linked to the faulty air conditioning. Our room was clean though and made up every day. Saying that, I would not recommend though looking too closely at your pillows! My pillow case partly came away and I was shocked at the state of the pillow within! The staff were mostly friendly and helpful although one or two were of a more surly disposition! The staff in the bar were both lovely. The food in the restaurant was good although overpriced for what it was and a fairly narrow selection. We ate in the restaurant next to the hotel, which was excellent and highly recommended. Breakfast was typical of a continental selection with a wide choice. The only thing I didn't like was that a lot of the food was left uncovered and there were a lot of flies around, landing on the food. I have to mention the location. People have said it's on a busy road. It's actually on the junction of two busy roads so you have four lanes of heavy traffic going by. This means there is constant noise from traffic stop-starting, beeping their horns and generally racing off. It is relentless and, if in a room at the front, must be pretty unbearable. Whilst the hotel cannot help the location, it is a consideration and is definitely one reason that we would not stop there again. Finally, a lot has been said in other reviews about whether it's walkable into the centre of Sorrento. I suppose the answer depends on your level of fitness but be aware that it's a slog back uphill and for the most part there are no pavements so you are walking with busy traffic. There is a bus stop very close to the hotel though which will take you into town for €2. So, all in all, a mixed review but our overall feeling is that we would not stay there again.

Fabulous hotel with great service & staff. We stayed here in room 306 for 10 nights and enjoyed great views and great nights sleep throughout our visit. All staff were very friendly, attentive and most welcoming, that we cannot thank them enough for making our stay even more homely!

Stayed here for seven nights. Easy check in. Friendly staff. We had a double garden view room. Very clean with a comfortable bed. Plenty of clean fluffy towels. Do take your own beach towels as they are not provided. We rented towels for 1 euro per day. Good choice at breakfast. Lovely dining room and nice outside balcony if you want to eat outside. The restaurant is nice and we had a lovely reasonably priced meal with wine on one evening. There is also a lovely restaurant next door. Bus stop about two minutes from hotel. 2 euros into Sorrento, or you can walk. We paid cash on all of the buses. There was just one who said we had to book online. We just stayed on the bud as did four other people who also hadn’t booked online. It only happened once . The road is busy but not as bad as some people have made out on here. You just need to be alert and keep well into the inside . Pool is clean and there are plenty of sun beds and seating. There is a Bar service at the poolside.

Currently on day 9 of 11 days here and have had a fantastic stay. The staff are great and the hotel is spotlessly clean. Breakfast choices are more than adequate and the lunch menu is great too! We had to change rooms and it was done professionally and with ease. We have stayed many times in Sorrento ( hotels and Airbnb's) and this is one of the best. 5 mins walk up the second turning is Fortuna campsite ( opposite a Tui hotel) which has a little supermarket. We found this on our second day and has been a godsend. It also runs a very reliable bus service into Sorrento for 2 euros as the other busses can be very hit and miss! Overall a brilliant stay and would definitely recommend.

We stayed for 5 nights. Great hotel, immaculately clean, very comfortable bedroom. Great staff. Excellent breakfast. Lovely pool and outside areas. We ate in the restaurant 3 nights and the food was very good. There is road noise but it didn’t bother us. There is no path on first 50 or so yards down into town but after that there is a narrow pavement

Just got back after a 4 night stay at the Metropole. Everything about the hotel, staff, food and facilities, was excellent ! The walk to and from Town really isn’t that bad and I’m 62 albeit I can see why some would find walking on the road, a bit frightening. The bus stop is 30 metres away if walking isn’t for you. I would definitely recommend the Metropole to anybody travelling to Sorrento.
