A mixed review- I am Marriott Platinum. We were scheduled to come 1 day after hurricane Ernesto hit. I called multiple times to the resort and Marriott corporate to ask what kind of state the facility was in and asked if I could cancel if it wasn't in great shape and if all services weren't available- it's understandable. I had booked on points (it was a LOT of points) and it was my 50th birthday, so I understood but I just wanted honesty. I was assured by BOTH management AND Marriott corporate that everything was A-Okay and. I was cleared for a nice 2100 sq foot suite upgrade on the APP, so we were excited to cruise in our room, quite honestly, even if some services were not available. A few hours before right when we were landing I refreshed my app, and we were downgraded back to a regular room. No notice .No call. No refund of any sort. And as much as the staff was AMAZING (thank you to pretty much everyone, especially Nelson), that lie, really hurt. The services were very much impacted, the beach was destroyed (not their fault, but they should have been honest) -dead fish, birds, debris, water not clear, pool full of sand and the ocean had TONS of jellyfish. It was almost impossible to secure any transport and most of the local town was closed or still boarded up. A cab to get to down town was $75 each way. The regular rooms are no better than a Holiday Inn, to be honest. It wasn't worth the points at all.
