Had a meal deal as a couple. Meal very basic, little choice and no veg included. You had to buy these as extras. Salmon starter should have been served with bread or toast. . Sauce same on salmon starter as on minuscule portion of smoked haddock main dish. Main dish very small like tiny starter. The portions overall were really small. We did the same event last year and it was very good. Wouldn’t recommend meal deal. Basic. Coffee in lounge previously included little shortbread biscuits. Real cutbacks here from a very fancy venue which isn’t cheap, No complaints about the staff who are very friendly and pleasant.

Place is clean and staff are truly 5 star. Few niggles... Fold out bed was awful dipped in the middle-didn't sleep well, as all as no support whatsoever. Maybe the sofa bed in our room needs replacing for something more comfortable. Breakfast service was very slow. Fried breakfast was very lethargic. Sausage wasn't browned or appealling was pink and tasteless, scrambled eggs were laiden with butter and no seasoning, bacon was average. For such a lovely hotel the breakfast was a major let down, a basic chef with good produce can produce a lovely full English. Sadly you will not get a lovely full English here unless they sort the breakfast out.

A fabulous hotel and staff that were extremely welcoming and helpful throughout our 2 night stay. Food in the brasserie was excellent and the service was perfect. Staff really seemed to like being there and took a pride in their work. I generally don’t like visiting a place twice but I’d gladly stay again.

We frequently pass The Devonshire Arms & have often wondered what it is like to stay there, so we did! The location of the hotel is stunning in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The hotel looks attractive from the outside and inside the communal areas are lovely. Real fires were lit in two rooms and it felt warm & cosy during our visit. We were greeted and shown to our room by a lovely young receptionist who was very bubbly and welcoming. SPA- We visited the spa which is located over the road. It’s small but very attractive and the staff were friendly. Changing rooms are upstairs then you need to come back down the stairs to enter the spa which everyone has just walked up in outdoor shoes so ensure you take your flip flops as none are provided. There are 2 steam rooms & 1 sauna. They were good but the floor outside gets very slippery due to overflow from the nearby shower so care should be taken especially as it’s extremely dark in this area. The bottom bench in the sauna had a loose slat on our visit ( third plank from front) Refixing the slat should be easy, it just needs the screw tightening or replacing . I intended to mention it but forgot as leaving. Guests are requested to shower before entering the pool. We did, but it wasn’t enforced as we saw two guests entering the pool bone dry . This is unhygienic and staff should enforce it. One staff member seemed to know the ‘offending couple’ as their conversation with them seemed more than just friendly chit chat so sure it would’ve have been easy to offer a gentle reminder. FOOD- Food & the service in The Brasserie was excellent ( see separate review) but less so at breakfast. Breakfast is served is The Garden Room, a really beautiful room overlooking a formal outdoor area. On our visit, breakfast service would have given ‘Fawlty Towers’ a run for its money! Firstly, no one was there to greet us and we had to wait a few minutes to be attended to. The front of house male staff member rushed over and apologised for our wait. After giving him our name 3 times he eventually found us on his list and lead us to our very comfortable table and gave us our menus. The table was attractively set with good quality linen & cutlery. After perusing the menu for only a few seconds he returned to take our breakfast orders & asked if we would like any fruit juice. We gave our orders and immediately again he asked if we would like any juice. We informed him we had literally just given him our orders , he apologised and said it was a busy morning. He did seem quite flustered. Service thereafter was slow and when the full English breakfast was served it came without beans even though we had requested them. The hollandaise & eggs were served barely warm , the smoked salmon was delicious though. The toast was cold and the coffee served was luke warm. The poor couple near us were served their cooked breakfast before their fruit cocktail starters but when they flagged up the mistake they kindly agreed to have it

Had an incredibly frustrating experience with the reception staff—again. The middle-to-late-aged woman with short hair was not only unhelpful but also downright rude. She was dismissive, uninterested, and made no effort to assist. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time I’ve encountered poor service here. There have been issues in the past with inaccurate information and general unprofessionalism. Clearly, customer service is not a priority. Would not recommend based on repeated negative experiences.

My husband and I stayed here as a spa break for valentines. We have to say for the price we felt the room was overpriced. As you entered the room there was what appeared to be a urine stain on the carpet, we assume this is due to dogs being allowed in rooms. The cabinets were all streaked / poorly dusted as were the mirrors. The bed was an extremely old Divan with a stretchy valence that had mucky marks on it and didn’t fit the base properly revealing the not so nice divan. The hook holding the bases together was also broken and stuck out at the bottom of the bed. The bottled water in the fridge tasted old, one of the bottles was to be sparkling but was flat and tasted rank. Clearly left in the fridge from previous occupants as they hadn’t used it. Bottles were also covered in finger marks. Room was generally dusty around skirting and under and around the bed. We arrived around 4pm and had an appointment at the spa for 5pm and dinner at 8pm. The hotel was also fully booked so couldn’t have moved rooms even if we wanted too. The brasserie restaurant was nice but nothing special. Food was ok and service was ok. Friendly staff. Hotel staff were generally pleasant and we have no complaints there. When we came to leave we informed reception of the issues with the room. The response being no one else has mentioned this to us before. My husband and I felt the situation with general house keeping was not so good and efforts to keep rooms spotless and over and above were lacking. Especially for the price we paid. The spa treatments were lovely but the treatment rooms were dimly lit, as is expected but on close inspection the floors were dirty with hair and fluff, and areas like the hot wax machine was sticky looking with hairs stuck to it. The main steam room was clearly not working properly and we said waiting for steam for 5 mins and nothing happened and the pool was cold and extremely strong chlorine. The changing rooms upstairs were also in a poor state of decor and in need of a good clean. I was glad I had flip flops on. Our expectations of a little bit of Luxury were quashed.. we made the most of our one night stay by enjoying the outdoor surroundings, but were disappointed with the hotel and spa and would not stay again. I would have considered returning for treatments and a hotel stay had the hotel / spa been cleaner and not so tired looking.

We had a great nights stay at The Dev. It is the definition of cosy with open fires in comfy lounges. Rosie was great when adding amenities prior to my arrival. The spa facilities & staff were so nice. All very clean and accessible. We were roomed by a gent from reception, I didn’t catch his name. He was very professional and was able to help with any questions. Thanks to Sophie & her team in the Brasserie, the food & wine was delicious. We could have easily extended our stay. Would recommend.

Our stay at The Devonshire Arms was exceptional. Everything was as near perfect as it could be. The positivity, professionalism and passion of ALL the staff we encountered was a credit to the group. From check in to departure we could not find fault with any single aspect. When we booked we baulked at the americanisation of tipping in advance but on reflection found it to be a sensible solution to a complex situation. We had not realised that guided tours were on offer and had planned our day around exploring independently so when the opportunity to be taken around the estate by Jane presented itself we snapped it up. To find out we were the only ones only added to what we both described as a thoroughly entertaining and informative three hours. Jane typified all that was good about your hotel. Her friendliness, passion, depth of knowledge and positivity were a delight and certainly the highlight of the trip. Well done management and staff of the Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa
