Our local AirBnB host recommended Icelandhorsetours in Helluland for some horseback riding and we were delighted with the experience. We communicated with them via email and were able to schedule a tour to accommodate our schedule. Our guide, Andrea, asked us about our riding experience and paired us with appropriate horses. We were outfitted with helmets and hopped onto our Icelandic horses (don't call them "ponies!") for a wonderful private ride. The terrain was uneven for most of the ride, but the horses knew what to do. It's a bit different from riding in the US, as the reins were much shorter, but thankfully my horse knew what was expected of him so I barely needed to guide him. (I'm a fairly inexperienced rider, so the two hour tour was just right for me, as I started feeling sore as we were winding things up.) Andrea gave us a lot of interesting information about the area and Icelandic horses, and in general we enjoyed chatting with her about her experience in Iceland and the difference between Icelandic horses and the ones she had ridden in Europe. It was quite breezy on the day we went out, but we got lucky with the sunny weather and really appreciated the views. Once you've finished the tour, you are able to pay via cash or Paypal (and if you want to tip extra, you can give cash or just add that onto the Paypal payment and make a note). They can log you onto their wifi if you need it to make the payment. We'd absolutely recommend Icelandhorsetours to anyone in the area looking for a great horseback riding experience.
