I recently stayed at the Canopy Hotel in Sioux Falls for business. Being a Hilton Diamond member, I travel and stay in hotels about 200 nights a year. This was my first stay at a Canopy and below is an honest assessment: The good: - The front desk was friendly and receptive and greeted me upon arrival. Props to Savana especially for excellent customer service. - The hotel is an open concept and is designed well. - The room and bed were comfortable and generally quiet. - The rooms were spacious and serviced by housekeeping daily. Well done. - The key cards are wooden, nice touch. - There is a Nespresso coffee machine in the room which is a nice touch. - The fitness center is large and has modern equipment, including two Peloton bikes which actually worked. In many of the Hilton properties where there are Peloton bikes, they either don’t work or aren’t connected to the Internet. - There is a nearby parking structure which connects to the hotel via a skyway. More on this later. The not so good: - There what are called ‘smart refrigerators’ in the room. These are not refrigerators but coolers, more designed for storing soda or beer. I was told that the coolers keep the temperature to 40 degrees F but this was not the case as even when pressing the ‘quick cool’ button, the temperature stayed around 42 – 43 degrees. This is important if you are planning on storing perishables. Having worked in food service, it is important to keep food at or below 40 degrees F, otherwise, bacteria can start to grow after 4 hours. After going to the local Hy Vee grocery store and buying salads, hard boiled eggs and such, I ended up throwing most of the food away the next day - over $40 worth, because the temperature on the kept reading 43 degrees. - There are also no microwaves in the room so plan on eating out – and finishing your dinner that night. - The shower is nice but the seal allows water to run out past the door, creating a pool. This was acknowledged by the hotel but as a new property, this shouldn’t be an issue. - Not really a ‘not so good’ but the bath towels are huge – capable of wrapping an elephant. Ones half that size would be sufficient. - There are bottles of shampoo, conditioner and bath get in the shower which are nice. On the third night, the bath gel ran out. I asked the front desk if the bottle could be refilled and they said that they would relay the request. However, checking the next day, the bottle was still empty which is annoying because I left housekeeping a tip. - The hotel does not provide bottles or water to the guests, which may not be a bad thing environmentally. As a substitute, there is a bottle and glasses in the room and a water filtration unit on the floor by the elevators. However, the station on my floor was out of service. - While the fitness center is better than many properties, the music blared out through overhead speakers. I was not able to find the volume o
