The Belmont Hotel Reviews

This hotel is now adults only. We stayed for two nights, dinner bed and breakfast, which worked out quite expensive. My brother and sister were there at the same time but were booked for four nights on a winter saver which was excellent value for money. The accommodation and food were excellent. There were always plenty of staff on hand to help with anything. We have stayed in most of the hotels in Sidmouth and the Belmont is now our favourite.

The Belmont is a very well cared for hotel in Sidmouth. The interior decor has been very tastefully decorated - the dining room in particular is lovely. This was enhanced by the colourful, tasteful Christmas decorations. We booked a standard double room and it was lovely - very clean with excellent shower facilities. The service throughout the hotel was first class with staff working hard to ensure the new year celebrations were enjoyed by all. The food was delicious - dinner was an absolute treat as was breakfast.

A very memorable two night break. The whole stay from the cleanliness , great food and friendliness of staff was just fabulous. Thankyou

The quality of the service has been maintained, great staff. The dining is excellent. The rooms are very clean, modern and comfortable.

We were made so welcome at the Belmont. Staff were friendly and very helpful, going out of their way to cater for you, an example of this is I drink vodka and diet coke but with being a diabetic and other medical issues, I cannot take the draft stuff and the hotel doesn't do cans or bottles of coke, but they went out and bought me some, now this was first class customer service. The room was lovely with the bed very comfortable. The food was excellent, in fact the best hotel food I have tasted. A nice flat 5 minute walk along the esplanade to the little town centre. Great variety of individual shops. Would highly recommend the Belmont

My only complaint is that a couple of members of staff in restaurant were not happy and a smile would have been appreciated otherwise faultless

We stayed at the Belmont for a night away this is a lovely hotel and this is hotels should be run the staff are great the rooms are to a great standard as is the food can’t wait to go back

We had a Lovely stay a couple of nights at this relaxing Hotel staff so attentive throughout our stay , we have stayed a few times over the years and received a warm welcome on each occasion . We Dined over the two nights dinner was amazing & the service could not be faulted. Thank to all staff and wishing you all at the Belmont a Happy Christmas 2024 . As always really well looked after; the food variety is excellent for us as we are fussy eaters. Room well decorated and had the use of a walk-in shower. We have been coming to this hotel for either a meal or short break for the last 25 years.

Just book a stay, you won't regret it. Staff are friendly, but professional, food plenteous and tasty, room very well equiped and spotless. Team all lead by a lovely manager, Tim Beauchamp, very approachable, nothing too much trouble. Thank you

Overall the experience was good. However compared to previous years the hotel had slipped in providing good accommodation even though we had booked a superior room with sea view. The bed mattress needed replacement as it had lost its firmness,The room was smaller than usual and being on the first floor did not have the view we expected compared to the room above it on the second floor.There was no reading light by the bedside.

We tried the Belmont Hotel for Sunday lunch, having read several glowing reports on Trip-advisor. On the positive side, the hotel’s restaurant is elegant, the food was quite good and we managed to park outside. However, the service was mediocre and certainly not as suggested in earlier reports. We were served by several waiters/waitresses but there was little to choose between them. The waiter who took our coats said he would put them in a cupboard under the stairs, which was where we managed to find them on leaving. Our starters arrived within minutes before we had even ordered some wine and the staff seemed miserable and nu-attentive. The food was quite good but not exceptional. The waiter who poured coffee also christened the table and we found the mints hidden with the sugar packets. We left them a tip but they really did not deserve it. As Sidmouth residents, we would recommend Hotel Riviera, which is close by on the waterfront.

No complaints ,everything was top class,30 years was the last time we stayed,great staff,views of the sea and close proximity to town

A very comfortable well-run hotel, with high standards, in an excellent sea facing position. Breakfast and dinner were always top notch. My husband said it was the best roast beef he’d had outside our home, so thank you Chef. The wine list is good but not extensive, Even in four-star hotels dress is very casual these days but not in this hotel - jacket and tie is the dress code. Fine by us, and I would imagine for most of the guests the hotel attracts. No matter how beautifully owners create a hotel, the staff have the power to make or break it - they can subtly undermine it. Service at The Belmont was very good but a couple of staff in the dining room and bar, although efficient, never smiled. I really do appreciate that they work very hard, for often the minimum wage, but an occasional smile does enhance a guest's precious break, and it might even lighten their own long day! However, the staff generally including reception, the young porter who saw us to our room, and the maid who magically put right a mishap I had, were excellent. One evening there were two really young waiters who did their job very well, and with such charm . We only saw them once (Sunday or Monday?) but they were a delight. Although we didn’t have the pleasure of being waited on by him, I must specially mention George Peacock because we could see he made guests feel valued, without being ingratiating. He is exceptionally talented and will, without doubt, be a manager of a top hotel one day. Professionalism is always a pleasure to see. Sidmouth was perfect for an Autumn break, and the town has many individual shops and boasts two department stores. Strolling along the seafront in the October sunshine was lovely. The next day produced very dramatic seas, which were also superb to watch.
