Hotel Casa Luxemburg- Newly Renovated

The hotel is absolutely ideally situated. We had a second floor 'superior double' room looking out over the famous iron bridge: a great sight from the bedroom window at sunrise and at night. The room was very large and comfortable as was the bed. The breakfast was excellent with super service. Parking is a bit of a lottery but we found spaces both nights in streets about 5 minutes' walk away. 24 hour parking costs about £1.50.

We got an apartment in the hotel which was very well sized with multiple lounges and a bedroom, along with space outside with seats and a table. As the hotel advertises, the reception is not open at all times, but beware that on the day of arrival, you should let the hotel know when you're expected to get there to make sure someone's available to check you in. We didn't do this and were lucky to catch the person at reception just heading out for a while. A great location for exploring the city too.

We wanted to stay at Casa Luxemburg, but the hotel was full, so they asked if we wanted to stay at their sister property instead, called Filek House. So we stayed at Filek House for 3 nights while visiting Sibiu. Our rate included breakfast at Casa Luxemburg. I booked by calling Casa Luxemburg and then communicating via email. The staff were very responsive and I was impressed by how quickly they would reply. I had several questions about the rooms and I asked for suggestions for the area and they were so helpful and got back to me quickly with each question. Filek House is located at the corner of the large square. The location is phenomenal as it’s right on the large square. Filek House consists of four apartments- G1, G2, G3, and G4. Please note that at this time, G4 is not labeled, so it was hard at first to find it. We stayed in G4 which had 1 bed and 1 sofa that can lay out to be about a twin sized bed. I mistakenly thought this would be sofa bed, so make sure you know it’s not quite as large as a sofa bed. My 2 children shared this sofa, and though they complained at first, it turned out to be fine. G4 is quite large- it includes a bathroom with a shower (no tub) and looks like it was recently renovated. I loved the bathroom mirror and the towel rack. It has that half shower door which I find odd since water inevitably splashes out, but it seems to be a hotel trend these days. There is also a kitchenette with a Nespresso machine, hot water kettle, kitchen sink, tiny dishwasher, a kitchen table with 2 chairs, and one window. The main room is quite large with the bed, desk, a wardrobe and 2 windows. The sofa bed is in a small room at the end, and has a window. The doors and windows are all double paned which is a great feature. We would walk to Casa Luxemburg each morning for breakfast which was from 8:00-10:00 AM. The breakfast was a little underwhelming but was fine. It included some meats, cheeses, vegetables, bread, jam, and the kitchen would cook plain egg omelette or plain fried eggs for each guest if they want it. I wish there would have been homemade jams, fresh red peppers, and some more locally produced or homemade items. I also wish they had a non-dairy milk option. The breakfast room looks out onto the little square which is very nice. For parking, we just found parking and paid the daily rate. I cannot speak to the rooms at Casa Luxemburg, but as for Filek House, I would highly recommend it for a family of 3 or a couple. For a family of 4, Filek House might not be the best fit unless your children are young.

The best location to stay in Sibiu. It's central, has great views, has very comfortable beds, wifi, a Bluetooth speaker, and all the usual amenities. Parking is just one minute down the road, the fee for which is only €2.00 per 24 hours. We didn't have breakfast there, so cannot comment. The receptionists were very helpful and supplied us with a plug adaptor as ours was of a slightly wider bore than what is used there. The only con is that there is no lift, so you need to lug your luggage 3 floors (in our case). We visited in May, so not busy during this period. Perfect period though for us. Highly recommended.

The hotel was ideally located right in the heart of Sibiu. The whole hotel was very clean throughout the public areas and rooms. Our room was very modern, well equipped and excellent value for money. The only minor criticism would be the reception wasn’t manned when we arrived and the tour guide had to telephone for assistance to let us in, this maybe a weekend only or out of season issue, also the adjoining restaurant is closed for breakfast on a sunday so they have an agreement with a restaurant around the corner which offers breakfast on their behalf. We would definitely stay here again.

Casa Luxemburg is an excellent choice if you are looking for a boutique-style hotel right in the middle of charming historic Sibiu. We had a large room with a view of the Cathedral of St Mary which was delightful. We particularly liked the furniture in the room, the chair and sofa were comfortable and stylish. Staff were very helpful in advance of our stay. During our stay they could have provided better customer service with more information about local taxi services, and the reception opening hours were limited. Nevertheless we would certainly recommend Casa Luxemburg to anyone visiting Sibiu.
