Great olde worlde inn secreted just off Shrewsbury’s high street. The choice of beers was good but we were driving so we stuck to low alcohol cider and tea. The food was beyond excellent. I hadn’t had faggots (an old English working class dish made primarily of offal) for fifty years so I was delighted to find them on the menu. Tasty and showing all the signs of being home made the portion was huge with definite hints of liver. Mash was creamy and tasty and the peas completed the dish. We also had the fish and chips. Another huge portion with crispy batter flaky fish and crispy chips. probably the best pub meal we’ve ever had. Heaven. The service was great and quick. What’s not to like? I heartily recommend this wonderful establishment. Oh yes...they also have rooms you can book and no they didn’t pay for the review nor give me a free meal!

We stayed in the double en-suite room at 60 pounds a night. But although we were just using it as a base to enjoy Shrewsbury, we were very disappointed on a number of factors. We expected something basic, but we also expected a certain level of cleanliness which unfortunately was completely absent. The furniture was covered with dust and the skirting boards were filthy, the bed sheets were dirty and covered in stains and the duvet cover even had what looked like shoe prints on it. But worse, much worse, the red throw they put on the bed seems to never have seen the inside of a washing machine. I'm afraid there was a large white mark on it that could only have been one thing... The hot tap in the bathroom didn't work, the shower took some coaxing to start and the coffee cups had clearly just been rinsed under a tap because there was coffee residue still inside them and a lipstick stain on one of them. The only thing that lifted our spirits in the morning was the breakfast - delicious and served with a smile.

No complaints about the opo its self as we have stayed there several times and would recommend it, however the security staff leave a lot to be desired, a man who was so drunk there tonight he tipped a pint of beer over me , hence we had to leave to go back to our room so I could shower, whilst leaving the security staff were on the pavement outside and asked if we had enjoyed our evening , maybe if they were inside the pub they would have noticed that some of the clientele had had to much to drink and should have been asked to leave

Booked a room for a one night stay, great location in the centre of town, all the staff were very pleasant & friendly. The room was very clean & tidy, with our own private shower & toilet just across the hallway. The meal we had there in the evening & the breakfast we had in the morning were both very good. Looking forward to returning in the future

Six of us stayed one night for bed and breakfast rhe rooms are comfy and cheerful we had a separate shower room outside the bedroom .The breakfast was lovely and the lady serving it Wendy was very helpful. We also had lunch there which was very nice and reasonable .There are a lotbof steps to go up with cases to the rooms it's a little bit of putting but apart from that it was a very good one night stay

We recently had lunch here when we visited Shrewsbury. we had eaten here about three years ago so knew where to go, Very good pub meals are provided. There was a two for £14 menu. The portions were quite large for such a good deal. I couldn't manage a dessert after eating the main course

Shrewsbury is a great place to wander round for all its alleyways so to stay in a hotel tucked away up a narrow passage was a real treat. The building is amazing. Our room was comfortable, clean and well fitted out. And quiet! Best night's sleep in a hotel for ages. Good breakfast, excellent dinner, friendly staff. A wonderful find.

We were pleased to pre book a pub with accommodation in the centre of Shrewsbury on a Saturday. Communication was good and we were warned it might be noisy due to live music being a regular feature. We were welcomed and shown to a clean comfortable room with basic en suite. In the event the music ended well before 11.30 and we enjoyed a good night's sleep. However, we were disappointed the following morning by the vegetarian breakfast. Despite requesting a veggy breakfast on booking we discovered all it consisted of was 1 fried egg, a spoonful of beans, a barely grilled tomato and a few mushrooms. We asked if they had any vegetarian sausages but we're told "no" (too exotic obviously). One of us doesn't like mushrooms but we're not offered more of something else instead. We weren't even asked how we wanted our eggs as advertised on the menu - just presented with the above. A truly stingy breakfast. At least we got to grill our own toast tho'! By contrast on leaving we discovered the place next door advertising what we would have liked (see photos). The Old Post Office is a very popular pub and probably doesn't have to go to a lot of trouble to attract customer. However they could take a tip from their neighbour. A hash brown or two go down well whether you eat meat or not!
